Rear ended on my brand new GLE Coupe

Today I got rear ended for the first time by a blue W205 C class, the car held up great only the plate got bended, We just exchanged contact info and I let him go, My question is did I handle the situation correctly? I didn't want to contact insurance because here in Canada once you call insurance you are in for a raise on your quote. Plus the guy was really apologetic and nice.

In my experience, I've always waited on the PD.

Did the PD actually come? An incident like that they probably wouldn't have even bothered coming.

Nooòooo! The sensors they use in the bumpers are serious. The DSM reflactors are right behind the rear plates and they work in conjuction with the wobble nuts in the carburetor to tell when the vehicle is drifting and the ECO mode will then engage . I would call the guy up and tell him you are going to have to file a TPS report with the RCMP because your reflactors are messed up. This will probably cost substantially.

I would agree with filing a police report. Then taking it to the dealer to get it checked out and having the guy pay for it and any potential damage.

well..... I don't want the insurance to go up or the car go on Carfax.
By exchanging contact info will be hard to hold him liable if there is a significant damage to the car and he is a scumbag and don't want to pay.

Maybe I would use my phone camera to record the conversation and take pictures or a video clip as evidence. Just in case.

Quick Update, Took the car to the dealership and nothing wrong with it. The refractors are fine and so are the sensors. Biggest thing the car had was a scratch that got buffed out when I spring detailed the cars.
