Extended Warranty- how many of you bought it?

Hi Everyone,

Just picked up our GLE350 last week! It was a special built so had to wait about two months before its here. Loved the Luna blue color! The paronoma roof looks fantastic! Also the lighting package is a must have!

We plan to keep the car for more than 5 years! A friend of mine who's bought 5 Mercedes in his family (brothers and sisters) never bought extended warranty and all their big repairs came after 100,000 miles. Also he mentioned although new cars now have a lot of electronics but still if the eletronics are gonna go wrong, they will fail within standard warranty period. What do you guys think? Any takes on whether or not to get the extended warranty?

Keep the beat!
Dennis

I have owned five Mercedes-Benz and got extended warranties on each and paid off on every one. If you are keeping the car for extended time, find a good indie shop as well. Have him go over the car a couple months before warranty expires. On my 01 S class had $24 k.work done under warranty just before expiration.

I bought the 7 year 100 K warranty. if you do a thread search across these forums, you will come across a dealer in Houston, Texas that will sell you this for $2850. A good price!
I also ordered a GLE 350 with Lunar Blue, panorama sunroof, lighting package, distronic, etc.
We keep cars 8 to 10 years, so I thought it was a must have.
I also recommend that you check out the license plate bracket postings so you can mount your license plate bracket as I did under the front bumper and keep the good looking lines of the front end.
Be well!

The mileage concert is why the CPO warranty is actually better than the new car extended warranty. On my current 2014 S class I have UNLIMITED MILE warranty until May 2021, as it was a late build car. i think the CPO warranty is best in class and with the discount you can receive from a one year old car, I think it makes a much better purchase then buying new.

Hi pvrick,
Normally, I would agree with you, but in my case- the options I wanted and the color combination did not exist. And since I keep cars 8 to 10 years. I ordered one.

You can buy the warranty now - and then decide coming to 4yr/50K original warranty whether to refund, or keep it... 4 yrs down the road you can "assume" warranty cost will go up... the other option is you can choose to buy extended warranty up to last-day/lasst-mile (whichever 1st) before original expires... based on you service history..

I will check out the plate bracket. I agree we need to do something on the front bracket to retain the beauty lining of Mercedes.

Purchasing extended warranty is a MUST if you know you will keep the vehicle longer than 4 years or exceed 80,000 km/50,000 miles. (We are at 119,000 km in 4 yrs)

When we purchased our new 2012 ML350 BT we knew we would keep it 4-5 years and as a daily driver we also knew we would far exceed 80,000km so it was an easy decision to purchase the extended warranty.

It has most definitely paid for itself many times over. There are known common issues that arise at common intervals with these vehicles (oil leaks, turbos, DEF heater). We have had in excess of $20,000 worth of hassle-free repairs covered by the extended warranty.

This is a great extended warranty in part because it is a Mercedes Benz warranty (not third party). The great warranty combined with great service (Mercedes Benz - Barrie, Ontario Canada) provides peace of mind.

Bottom line, ask yourself 1) how long am I keeping the vehicle? and 2) how many kilometres/miles will I put on the vehicle?

Enjoy the ride

AS705,

I was thinking the same thing. Thanks for sharing! I will definitely get it done within 30 days.

Cheers,
Dennis

Precisely as AS705 mentioned, it depends on how long you plan on keeping your vehicle.
I'm not bothering with an extended warranty since I'm leasing on 36 months. There will still be a year left of regular warranty, and I average only 13-14,000 kms per year.

I have own 10 cars in the past 20 years. Never bought one.

1. I never keep my car long enough.
2. Car companies already offer you the extended warranty right before your the existing warranty expires anyway. You may pay a little more extending the warranty at a later time, but it's better than paying up front and not knowing if you will use it.
