seems there it's an official OEM kit to retrofit HUD into GLE... anyone do this yet? Im thinking about it... kit is about $1000 to 1200 In parts and requires coding at dealer... install can be DIY

That listing shows 3 parts: "Manufacturer Part Number: A1669069602 + A16668906009051" and "Other Part Number: A1668200900"
I'm not sure if that 3rd part is really needed or not but it's not expensive so if I do decide to order it, I will get it just to be safe. Also, since MB already activated the code for it, I'm thinking of going to my normal mechanic/body shop to install it as the labor would probably be cheaper than what MB charges.
The site I found all three of those parts is:

I actually looked into this. I asked my MB service center about installing it if I got the parts. They first wanted to see if it would accept the code needed since it's only offered in Europe(I'm in the US). They wanted me to bring it in to see if it would accept the code before I went and bought the parts. It did (so my GLE already has the code enabled), they then said it would be around $575 for labor to install. I also found a parts store in Europe that sells the parts cheaper than what I saw them for on eBay. It would be around $661.20 for the parts delivered to the US. So around $1236 total for the parts and installation. MB said they dash doesn't have to be cut, it's just mounted on the dash.

I have ordered the hud setup.
In the post it mentions 3 part numbers.
You must order all 3 as one is for the projector, the outer assembly and the wiring loom.
This is not a sit on top of your dash setup. The area above the cluster must be cut as the projector sits inside.
I found a video on YouTube that shows the dash being cut.
I’ll be having it fitted in the next few weeks.
Finally you don’t need a special windscreen as there is a small lcd that motorizes up so you can see all the info.

The hump above the cluster has a hole cut into it so that the lower hud mount and hud module sit inside above the cluster unit. The top hud trim then sits on top as seen in my photos.

Thanks for sharing this - it is really interesting. Would you be able to show a video of what actually comes up on the pop-up display while in use? It's super hard to find any decent information on it.

Here is a good short video. Wife wanted to order it, I don't like it much. You can't bring it down low enough without cutting off lower data. I would not have purchased it if not for the wife.

HUD was not a factory/OEM option was it?
