Extended Warranty for GLE350
Hi Guys,
Has anybody bought extended warranty? Is it worth it? What price is a good price? We plan to keep the car for a long time. Thanks and would appreciate any information!

Check the extended warranty forum for some folks you can contact to get pricing. I recommend Jeff Jackson.
It's basically an insurance plan. You're the only one that can decide if its worth it. On a new GLE350, it's probably going to be between $2k and $3k for a 3 year 100k mile extended warranty (make the coverage 7 years 100k miles from in service date).
Repairs are very costly on all MB's at dealers.

Evitawy2018,
I paid $2850 for my 3 year extended warranty in 2016 for my new GLE 350. The dealer cost at that time was $2750. One of the dealers let slip his cost and I used that as my leverage. I said in the beginning, " I am looking for an extended warranty, and I believe your cost is right around $2,500 ."
He replied that "I can't sell it to you for that price because my cost is $2750." I negotiated from there...
Please do a search on this forum because you will come up with all of the pertinent information. Shop around as I did and you can buy right over the phone from anyone. My dealer matched the best price I could find so they got my business.
For a dealer it is a few minutes of work for total profit. Remember that it is the finance manager you want to speak to. Good luck!

I paid $3100 for a 2017 GLE 43 warranty I bought in November of 2016. I hope I don't need it but glad I have it. Like it has been said, the service costs outside the warranty period can be enormous.

looking at over $10K in maintenance. Huge headache with these vehicles when they age. That’s why people that buy them, get rid of them after the 3rd year. Very expensive to maintain and repair. It worth it. It’s just a money drain and it’s it like you are spending a lot of money for a quality car that will let you a long time, lost of money for MB brand and it has lots of quality and reliable pity problems. Better off with a a Toyota. I wish i did. So expensive to operate and it doesn’t drive that great compared to the rest of the brands. MB has the worst leg room, knee room, head and shoulder room. So right. Once I sat in 4Runner and a Highlander wow so much room and smooth driving. I was kicking myself for buying MB for me and my wife. Not worth it folks.

Maintenance is expensive, if you totally rely on the dealer and never try to negotiate price. I have two Mercedes dealers within 50 miles and always check both and negotiate a price as well as pick and chose what maintenance I want. I can change windshield wipers, have someone else rotate tires (why pay for a balance when you rotate if theres no balance problem. But they are expensive. Like most European cars. I am approaching a decision point in that my 2015 ML350 CPO runs out shortly , not sure what to do. Car has over 60,000 miles

keep in mind that MB warranty only civets night things like engine transmission etc. So far extended warranty hasn’t done anything for us. Still have to pay to have new battery replaced , died for no apparent reason, time up, tires, breaks. I wouldn’t say that paying lots of money for MB vehicle has done much for us. It’s not like you are getting quality or reliability like Subaru. MB is an expensive vehicle to run and operate. If anything breaks , you are screwed. After owning two, the next logical step for us is , get rid of and stay away from MB - total money pit. We are looking at Toyota Highlander and Hyundai Telliride. I would totally pay money for quality and reliability but MB is very far from both. The MB dealer told me they make 5 times more koney on repairs them selling cars. Once you are stuck with MB, they’ve got you, and you’ll be paying through your nose for an unreliable brand and the dealer is laughing all the way to the bank
It sounds like you had a bad experience, which is unfortunate, but your statement that "the extended warranty hasnt done anything for you" contradicts your other statements that the car is a "money pit", as it should have provided at least some level of coverage for mechanical issues.
Sounds like your issue is the cost of maintenance vs. mechanical problems. As others have suggested, people are best to compare prices between independent shops and MB dealerships; depending on what you are looking to get done, there may be some savings to be had.
All of the other car brands you listed also have their own maintenance costs to consider. I'm sure there is online data for the people who like to crunch numbers and I doubt MB is materially different than the other luxury brands.

I disagree somewhat that maintence is more expensive. The big difference is whether or not the dealer does it or you do your own. I have changed oil,brakes,filters,fluids...the cost is pretty much on par with all the vehicles I have owned. Its the stuff beyond the easy maintence stuff that gets pricey real fast with MB. I have owned 18 cars in my lifetime, My current GLE has been to the shop for things other than maintence more than any other vehicle I have owned...and to top it off, the GLE is the most expensive vehicle I ever bought. I understand you always have a chance of getting a problematic vehicle, but some of the things are just asinine. Rear doors not locking when pressing button on fob due to door modules being bad...cam covers leaking with less than 30k miles...piano black trim cracking on all the doors...In my case, I definately did not get the "You get what you pay for" scenerio. I am sure there are a ton of trouble free GLE's out there, but in my case, I wouldnt own this thing without a warranty...not for what MB charges for parts and repairs..

What’s the MB recommended maintenance schedule for 2016 GLE350 4 Matic?
I’m at 60K miles and due for B service.
one dealer wants $600 do do the usual oil change and drain the break fluid but the other dealer wants $300 for oil change and. I break fluid replacement
why the difference ? What does MB recommend ?

It's basically an insurance plan. You're the only one that can decide if its worth it. On a new GLE350, it's probably going to be between $2k and $3k for a 3 year 100k mile extended warranty (make the coverage 7 years 100k miles from in service date).
Repairs are very costly on all MB's at dealers.
