Command screen doesn’t turn on when car starts
does anyone have the issue or know of a fix for the command system and radio not turning on when the car does? It’s not a huge deal but it’s kind of annoying that every time I turn the car on I have to also turn on the radio and command system. Is there a way to make it turn on automatically like any other car would?

This may be a silly question, but are you turning COMAND "off" before you shut the car off? When you start the engine, it should be in the same mode as when you turned the car off. COMAND doesn't automatically come on if you turned it off before you shut the car off. There's no setting to adjust this. If it doesn't work like this, a trip to your service department is in order.

That's what I thought, but I had to ask just to be sure. Yes, you need a service visit. There's a defect in the system somewhere. Sounds like an easy fix. They'll just reflash the COMAND software.

I took it to the dealer last night and they apparently hooked it up to some device and claimed that would fix the problem. Sure enough it’s still happening so I took it back today and the advisor told me he didn’t know of anything else to fix it and that the car could be designed that way. Starting to really miss my Lexus...

That sound really really annoying...The Comand Online in my GLE does not do that.
Is there a way we could compare software version, to rule out that its a ”feature”?

To my knowledge, there's no way for us to determine the COMAND version no., just the GPS map database. The dealer would be able to do that. I suggested in my earlier post to compare their vehicle to one on the dealer's lot. When that vehicle does NOT exhibit the same issue, that's your proof right there that this is not normal. I did this with my last vehicle when it was making a weird (to me) electrical noise. The dealer assured me it was normal. When I asked to compare it to another vehicle on their lot, they agreed without hesitation. What do you know? They were correct. The sound was normal after all.

GLE43 is correct and I've never had any of my MBs do this. It should go back to whatever you had it at before you turned the car off. Do what he said and ask them to show another car on the lot that does it.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Said it was because the battery wasn't powerful enough to start up the console on its own and I need a new battery. There was no battery light or anything on in the dash.
I am picking up today to see if the new battery fixed it...they want about $500 for the battery though and say it seems to be working now.

I am having this issue as well. Was told it was the battery. There is no code, so MB won't fix.

I brought the car to the dealer end of March, just days before my warranty ends. No detail explanation on specific cause like you mention. They just ran a whole bunch of test. Similar to your fix, it was written in the work order that battery failed test and they replaced it under warranty. Weird that there was No battery warning on dashboard or anything. But everything works fine since then.

-Battery is $80 - $120 (Granted this was with my C and E) from the parts department and takes 10 minutes to change yourself. (I've done it several times and changed it myself on the dealer lot)
-If your dealer refuses to fix something that is easily reproduced, you need to do two thing. Find a new dealership that hold MB standards and then call MBUSA to report the crap dealer.

Well I stand corrected. Mine recently started not turning on the command when I started the car (A little over half the time). I also noticed that the car lagged a little when it started. Well this week the car would not even start. I got it jumped off, let it run little bit then again it wouldn’t start. I tested the battery it it appeared low. I called the dealership, they quoted me 340 for the battery and 150 to change it. I decided to do it myself. I took the pain in the butt battery out, bought an interstate, still $265, and changed it myself. Now the command has been on every time and that dreaded eco start is back working.
For the record, that is by far the hardest battery I have ever changed.
Good luck.

I also noticed my Eco start would come back on after I turned it off. When I turned my car off and restarted it the Eco start light would come back on.

Im Cesar from Dominican Republic.
Ive got the same issue but I fixed.
After changing the main battery, the secondary battery was the same.
You know what fixed it?
There is a setting on the cluster called comfort Access. Mainly is for the steering wheel to rise when exit the car but I noticed that keeps the last setting of the radio.
After too much money spent on batteries, it was a simply setting.
At least on my case.
Please do try!
