Exhaust popping and carbon soot

2018 GLE with 60k mile service completed by dealership about 1200 miles ago. When in sport or sport + mode and hard acceleration to pass the exhaust makes popping sounds during shift up. Also see a lot of carbon dust in exhaust which was also wiped off back window during fuel up. Is this normal?

It doesn't sound normal. Are there any mods on the vehicle? Exhaust or tune? Black smoke is incomplete combustion.

2019 E300, 2018 GLE43, 2009 E350 Sport, 2002 Viggen cabrio,
No mods

Just took delivery of it as a CPO Monday at 1:04 AM from a Utah Benz dealer and had my dealer do a state inspection.
Took B-roads to Parents house in N Carolina from Virginia and back on Wednesday. Passing farm vehicles in 55mph zones. Dealer gave me full Car-Fax with year subscription. My e350 is having now shocks and sunroof recall work. Was going to ask when the E class was ready to look at the Gle since cup holder heat/chill not working.
If the soot and popping is bad will take it in Monday. First CPO Benz to have this issue since 2006

Please post the dealer feedback. I don’t recall seeing black smoke or popping reported from an M276 TT engine on this site.

Popping noise is called backfire. The Sport compact guys/girls have 2-step enable on there ECU. You have a 43 AMG. I wonder if this is standard or you got some tune done to it.

The popping is a result of the air/fuel mixture becoming very lean when the throttle is closed and the engine is rotating well above idle speed.

Edit:
I looked at a bunch of video on the 43. It's normal for the exhaust to backfire. When I was reading other post they all had it in Sport mode.

It may be typical under hard acceleration, but I wouldn't call it normal. I've never heard of anything designed to run lean. Everything I recall ever hearing is that lean conditions are considered worse than running rich so it will be interesting to see how the dealer addresses it.

have a AMG 43...pops in sport+ mode with or without tune...ECU controls it. it's normal for AMG 43... Some soot can be acceptable, based on how you run the vehicle, use cheap or premium gas, e.t.c...

all my vehicles with chrome or stainless exhaust have some soot... just clean it off...i noticed more on my 2017 Volvo XC60 when i used 87 octane cheapo gas on the road. diminished some when Switched to Costco premium

The popping is normal for AMG's in Sport +. The soot is not, make sure you're running the right octane fuel.

Dealer addresses concerns

Yes, unlike wife’s 2019 e300 in Sport plus the GLE 43 crackles on both up/downshift. Service manager says it provides richer fuel in Sport and Sport +. Smoke was not normal. They found a loose transmission filter which spilled into aeroflow cover and then splashed onto passenger side catalytic convert and exhaust pipe. This caused smoking and was fixed. She had photos. I was told that dealer in Utah did a service on transmission last month and local Benz dealer just redid it and made sure it was put together correctly. Ran fine today. Acceleration from onramp to 65 mph highway speed was very decent. Quicker than my 02 Saab Viggen convertible.
thanks to all replies.
