GLE400 Tire Suggestions

Hi all,

My 2016 GLE400 has currently Conti UHP 265/40R21 105Y and I need to replace them. They are MY 2018 and have run around 46000 KM.

All I have found are Micheline with load index & speed rating 101Y and Pirelli Verde with 105V. Unfortunately there were no other tires available. So which is better between the both if I can use any of them with different load and speed ratings.

I prefer the Michelins over anything.

Only MBs - the best or nothing
Do not use any tires with load less than 105 on GLE/ML. Check the TireRack. There are many 265/40-21 tires available with 105 load rating.

Unfortunately I live in a country where no one order 21 inch rims. That is why I cannot get alot of options when it comes to tires.

Anyway, based on your reply it is better to go with the Pirellis since they are rated 105 load index.

How about speed rating? if I don't go above 80-90 MPH, is it fine to have a tire with less than the stock Y rating?

V speed rated means tires were designed to handle speeds of up to 150 mph. GLE400 top speed is limited well below it. Yes you will be 100% safe.

Thanks for your time to reply.

I am not going to change at once. I will wait for like a month but since those are the available options I thought I would ask first before made my decision.

So just an update I was fortunate to get Michelin PS4 S tyres. They are as good as the Conti they replaced in traction and comfort. The Michelin is superior in that they make less noise, they are quiet until highway speed where the wind noise is more so there is no way I will hear any tyre noise. Unlike the Contis where I could hear them from as low as 60km/h.

I already done around 800km with these tyres but noticed that there is a slight vibration from 110 km/h and above so I thing it will go away after I make road force balancing tomorrow.

So I did road forcing in 2 places but the highway speed vibration still exists. Any idea if the tires are stiff in nature and this is normal??

Like you, I bought Michelin Pilot Sport+ for my GLE. I am very happy as the road noise is all but gone and the ride quality is better than the Conti's.

I would be careful with the Pilot Sport in Chicago snow weather If it's not the A/S 3+
