2018 GLE 350 Navi

Folks, the question on GLE Navi. I love everything except krapy Navi ( sorry for using Crapy). It is very confusing and looks like Navi from the early year 2000. I am thinking of one of the two options. Either replace the whole unit with Android or just buy Garmin Navi and stick it on the windscreen or somewhere below the infotainment system. Definitely, my wife will not be able to use the complex Navi of GLE. I am very techy and Software IT so I am sure I am not the only one who is facing this difficulty. I can use Navi but it is very cumbersome to use for a car. I have a Honda accord and CRV 2015 very simple to use, super simple. So planning to get a Garmin touch screen Navi it cost around 150 which is worth it as juggle with GLE during driving can cost a life.
Love sound system it is crisp and with good bass. On Ride no complaint.

Why not use Android Auto/Apple Car Play? It offers your phone nav on the screen...

Do you have any recommendations on USB cable for android. I believe I will be needing a data cable, all I have is a charging cable. I can give it a try but need to know if I need any special adoptor/cable
Thanks

Any USB cable should do, most all are data cables that provide power. Make sure you plug into the lower USB port in your center console bin. On my 2017, you enable CarPlay/ android auto via the telephone section of Comand, assume it’s the same on yours, but check the manual for Comand.

Thank you it works better than GLE Nav as i can access my favorites. I will also try separate Navi to keep it standalone.

Check it out, I installed it standalone. The MB button behind it is redundant as I can control it through my steering wheel controls or knob close to the armrest. This stand-alone has many advantages, it frees up MB infotainment system display, then no need to android car play as sometimes I get phone calls and it can freeze GPS at a crucial point when changing lanes. I modified the holder which fits in the CD player. I removed the magnet and screwed the holder which came with the Navi. It is not a magnet but a strong sliding socket and very stable. Next is to paint the standalone Navi border black from gray. Should not be a difficult I can use plastic dip with gloss. Of course it is a touch screen

What is the reason you added the second screen?

GPS for traveling. It is so easy to find the address as it is touch screen and address entry is super simple. On other times in the city, no need as the holder is not attached so can be easily pulled out.

I found another solution. I updated my Phone address book. Once the address book is updated I can pull from the address book ( blue tooth) and MB GPS works fine for this process. In this case, you do not need to connect via USB. I like this method, So I removed the 2nd Navi.
