Was in a pretty bad accident yesterday- my 2020 GLE 450 was rear ended on the freeway. It’s really upsetting since I know my MB will never be the same again.
After I was hit I discovered the MB feature that disconnects your ability to restart the car after the accident. DPS hooked up a line to my car to try and pull it out of the freeway but the other car was stuck to mine. They managed to get them free and we tried pulling it again but the rear wheels were completely locked and wouldn’t roll despite the car being in neutral. Does anyone know what this would mean? Frame, drive train, rear transmission damage?
Trying to prepare myself for what I know if going to be a long process repairing a luxury car or the nightmare process of shopping for a new one in 2022 with very limited inventory. I’ve also never been in an accident with one of my luxury cars and don’t even know where to start making sure it’s evaluated and repaired properly- will insurance pay for it to be taken to Mercedes’ collision?
Luckily my trusty beauty did exactly what she was supposed to do- kept me super safe inside and took the hit like a total champ. She destroyed the other car but grateful everyone walked away without serious injuries.

Have posted it there but no comments. Would really love some fellow MB owners to share their experience. Hoping the car is totalled TBH since the other car jammed into the frames and even hit the rear wheels. No idea if the failure to roll is a safety feature or if the rear end is that damaged.

Sorry for the accident and glad to hear that every one fine. It looks like the other car took a hit more and I am impressed with the other car as it crumpled the hood and front which is designed to crumple. The other car though rare ended you but also saved you by absorbing force through several crumple zones. The other car insurance should pay for the repair and other costs. Hope the other car has good insurance to pay for MB. If the frame ( main body frame) is damaged then I will try to get rid of it after repair. If no frame damage then you can think about keeping it. Just my opinion
I am sure a reputable body shop will make it look like new.,, but be aware this accident will show up on a CARFAX report and depending on the damage report will reduce the value of the car when you go to trade it in.

As for locked rear wheels, those cars do have automatic, electric parking brakes and my 1st guess is that was the issue.
If you are in USA, we do have MB roadside assistance free of charge and if you have dealer nearby, they will dispatch actuall MB technician, who will be familiar with the vehicle.
When far away, MB USA will subcontract to local tow company, who might have no clue how to deal with it.
Considering high value of pretty new car and only corner damage, I don't think insurance will total it, but pictures don't tell everything.

Good point about the automatic parking brake. Modern cars do a pretty hard shutdown to avoid post-crash damage or injury. Shutting off the fuel and ignition system is one example. It makes sense that the parking brake would also automatically engage after a collision to help avoid vehicle motion after a collision. I hit a deer in a VW Touareg several years ago; the driver's airbag blew, seat belt tensioned, and fuel and ignition systems were cut off from power.

Great point about the parking brake! Hoping that’s all it is and it’s not something more sinister. Wish I had an update but I still can’t get it out of the tow yard and to a body shop. Someone warned me things were super challenging due to labor shortages and supply chain issues but they weren’t kidding.
