Mini DIY project if anyone wants to add a bit of look to their w166. By luck I found out that regular package and sports package shared similar front brake rattle pin design with similar dimension. Meaning they could technically cross fit. Only slight modification needed (need to cut a quart of an inch off a metal part with a grinder, 30 second job)

parts# 000-993-72-07
Somehow this is actually a few dollars cheaper than the regular pin.

I have been looking for a part like this for a year, the trick is that its called and 'anti-rattle clip' not a 'caliper cover'!

Its not too clear what needed to be ground down? Is in the un-used bolt carrier?

Also, if you could explained how you replaced these? is this just a snap in effort?

It’s a very easy job to switch it out. Snap right in.

The part that needs to be grind down is just extra metal tip, I believed that’s an extension of the welding that holds cover and clip together, I shaved off an quart of an inch. As long as you don’t shave it off completely they should be fine.

Nice look versus factory. I'll have to give it some thought.

what about the rear so as to match them up like the mod.

Unlike the front cover plate incorporating the spring (which is a separate part hence has its own MB p/n), rear cover plate does not have a separate p/n number hence MB does not sell it separately from the "AMG" labeled rear caliper.

Agreed. I think for the rear you might have to change out the caliper. But assuming the rotors are the same dimension in terms of diameter. Technically you can change out the caliper without much work, the screw hole should be in the same place.

Actually specifically for W166/X166 as far as the rear calipers are concerned, the size of the rear rotors (and specifically the diameter) is irrelevant. Rear brackets (a.k.a. rear brake carriers) is what determines which rotors are required.
For example the rear calipers for W166 ML550/GLE400/GLE43 are identical to those on ML63/GLE63, except for the cover plate (of course for ML63 PP and GLE63S rear calipers are also red color, but physically and internally the calipers are identical). So same rear calipers (those marked "AMG for example") can be used on any W166/X166 provided the correct brackets are used to properly seat calipers and pads on given for that model rotors.

@Leo17 old thread sorry, but how did you remove that anti-rattle cover on the front caliper of your GLS? My driver front one is rattling and I am going to remove everything and check the pads and caliper but didn’t want to break the anti rattle clip as it’s on there really snug? Thx
