Going back to the W166 platform

It is funny how things work. After I sold the 2021 GLE450 I started looking at a 7 seater 18-19 GLS 450 as I really want a much bigger and more reliable vehicle. Then this badboy came and I said screw the additional 2 seats as I have a van. The rig only has 13k on the motor. The coupe section is bone dry so it is time to search for old W166 problems again which I am VERY familiar with. The bang and pop of the exhaust oh my....

This is a good spec especially with Active Curve Assist. I have it on my GLE43 and it makes thy car handle great on curvy roads.

I'm told that option is quite rare

Only thing I will shed a tear on is the cost of those extra wide 22" 325 rear tires. Holy cow I priced one and it is almost $900 each for a all-season. I read that this thing shreds tires because of the camber. How many miles you have on your ride and have you changed tires?

I have 21's... have 56k miles and on second set of tires. First set replaced at about 42k

It's an expensive option for sure and it does make the car handle much better. With that said, it also makes the car less reliable. The only thing that ever really went wrong other than engines mounts on my 63 was the active curve. Had it not been under the warranty period it would have been quite expensive to repair.

What went wrong with it?

If I remember correctly, it was the active curve pump.
