Help! Red trunk/liftgate button doesn't lock and trunk lid button doesn't work

Hi all GLE owners... New to me 2017 GLE 350 4Matic owner here

With keyfob in pocket and car locked, I cannot unlock the trunk using the under-lid button on the outside. If car is unlocked, the lid button does work to unlock and automatically lift gate. Then when lift gate is up, the red lock button does not work to close and lock the lift gate. Doesn't matter if I hold the button down or not, quick presses doesn't work either. The red liftgate down button works just fine. The liftgate will stop going down if I press the liftgate down button, then the red lock button. The liftgate button on keyfob works fine. I just changed the keyfob batteries.

I used an AUTEL scanner, and there were no codes for the Trunk module.

Can anyone please help?

I went out to my 2016 gle 350 4 matic….
if my car is locked and the fob is in my pocket, the rear will open just by grabbing the handle and engaging the handle on the rear hatch.
Also, when my rear hatch is in the open position, pressing the left or right side red button on the inside of the rear hatch will close my rear hatch…
Just thought I’d let you know….
And, the only red button on the key fob is an emergency siren… why would you press this at all?

Hey Chefcct, thanks for replying... I meant the red illuminated lock button under the trunk lid, not the red button on the key fob. with the trunk open the right red button (trunk lock) doesn't do anything.
When my car is locked and go grab the handle, it DOESN'T open. if my car is unlocked and I go grab the handle it DOES open.

AMGGuy,
Thanks for the clarification.
This is not how it should be working…
When the car is locked and the key fob is in your pocket, the rear hatch should open when you lift the handle and also the red buttons on the rear hatch should be closing the hatch when you press either button!
Good luck,

Yes I know that's how it's supposed to be but mine isn't doing it. That's why I'm asking for help here!

AMGGuy,
You will need to take it to a mechanic or a dealer for them to diagnose what needs repair.

Update: I was able to use a AUTEL tool to reset / calibrate my keyless GO system, I backed up the current state then recalibrated/programmed, it was automatic. Now both red trunk buttons are working!
