"Check Brake Pad Wear", I see this message at about 25K miles

I mostly drive on local roads.
How many miles roughly I can still drive before I have to get the pad replaced.
I plan to make an appointment in a couple weeks. I drive 25 miles total daily.

Warning illuminates with approx 2-3mm of pad left. MB has a calculator to estimate mileage remaining. It’s posted on this site several times. From memory it’s 4k-6k km per mm, if the warning light is not illuminated.

You have time. 2-3mm is good for several hundred miles or more. Time to get them changed now.

If they are that worn at 25k, they are not going to last long. I'd get that done ASAP.

I change my front around 17k-20k miles and the rear 25k-27k miles on average.

That message appeared around 27k miles on our GLE. The most-worn pad had 2 to 3 mm remaining.

How many useful miles are left on the pads? That would largely depend on how aggressively you use the brakes. If you only drive 25 miles a day and are generally easy on the brakes, you should be fine before your repair appointment.

Scheduled a service, they checked, front 8 mm left, rear 2mm left.
The message was on at around 24800, right now it is 25400.
The dealer sent me the job list:
disc brake pad 1
brake paste 2
brake disk vented 2
brake wear sensor 1
pan head fit bolt 2
bolt with flange 4
brake clnr 1
screw 4
total parts and labor is 1472.69.

Does this look fair?

My only question would be the rotors (aka disks). Do they really need replacement at only 25k miles? Did they measure the rotors and determine they were below minimum thickness?

I just picked up my car, total $1600+ for the rear brake job with the above line items.
I asked them the same question when they gave me the estimate yesterday. They said they have to replace the rotor/disc.
I remember I read somewhere another person also had the same issue.
My Honda, the dealer just resurfaced the disc.

I have a 2001 C320, I just briefly checked the service history. At 50K and 100K, the front "disc and pad" were replaced twice. I did not see anything about the rear in my record.
My experience with them is, they replace, they do not repair.

Why pay high dealer price for something simple and generic like brakes?

All the Mercedes I own. I have to replace the rotors, pads and sensor together. There no cutting corners.

The GLE400 front rotors size is 350x32mm and the rear rotor size is 330x22mm the same as the GLE43

Why though?

I dont even resurface my rotors when I swap pads. It's fine. If they start pulsing, then take scotch bright to them. If that doesn't work, then get new rotors. I can do pads and a fluid swap within an hour, without a lift. I'd like to think they're better at it than me, especially since they aren't drinking while they're doing it. The only times I've swapped rotors on any more my cars was 1) when I got to the metal on the race car 2) after about 20 track days on a 450hp/3400lb street car and 3) after 120k miles on my silverado.

Not my experience but I'm limited to only have been an MB owner that turned his own wrenches for the last 25 plus years.

Mercedes does not recommend turning rotors. Turning them reduces thickness below recommended specs allowing them to warp much more easily.

I assume your reference of "the same as the GLE43" is only for the rear 330x22 rotors, because the W166 GLE43s front rotors are 375x36 (same as W166 ML550s) and are much large than GLE400s 350x32 front rotors.

,,,
They had to replace rotors, because the owner is giving them quotas for profit and selling rotors done at pads job is huge profit on labor as well as part markup for just few minutes of extra work.
Single set of pads wear 20-30% of the rotors, so for me rotors are lifetime item.
Bad part is that MB makes pads smaller than rotors, what creates lips. I usually have to grind the lips when putting 3rd set of pads.
Each rotor has min thickness stamped on it, but good luck finding mechanic who will give you that info.
