I did this upgrade. Apple car play does work. I like the touch screen. It is not as simple or easy to use as a system that comes from the factory but I definitely enjoy it. Boot up to apple car play sometimes has to repeat itself. And you need to find out how to make sound work if it doesn't. I could probably lead anyone through this. I will say that doing the installation takes some time.

2016 Mercedes GLE 350

Anyone still monitoring this thread? I recently installed this screen (YeeHung W166x166) on a vehicle (MB 2016 GLE350 w/o Premium Sound). I had the screen installed at a professional shop, but it was a mess when I got it. I purchased the car for my daughter's 16th birthday and did the screen update at the bequest of the Stereo Depot when I was trying to add carplay for her. Her birthday is next month, and I want to make sure it's squared away before I give her the car. Here are the issues I need help with:
1.) The music was cutting off when the camera came on. ***Solved*** there is a setting on the screen to "mute music when backing". I disabled that setting and now the music stays on.
2.) I understand that the backup camera comes on when in reverse, as it should...However sometimes when stopped for a prolonged period of time (i.e. at a light or stopped on a curb) the 360 camera comes on for no reason. Can this be stopped? It was cutting off the CarPlay audio every time and I had to navigate back to the app for music to start. It's not too big of a deal now that I have fixed the problem with the music stopping, just curious if there is a fix.
3.) The sound during phone calls is atrocious. I listen to music through the new screen but the phone calls were horrible. I then set the phone calls to come through the MB native Bluetooth and phone calls sound great, but then there is a transition issue when switching back to CarPlay for the music. Too much for my daughter to deal with. If I leave the phone call just through the CarPlay, it does not allow me to turn the volume up or down on the caller. Is there a way to have the new head unit/CarPlay use the native Bluetooth for calls?
