Yes, great tires. Very happy with them. Very quite and the handling is excellent (of course not as good as the OEM Yokohamas, but I did not expect them to be).
Cheers,
I would agree overall that it’s a very good tire and has worked well on both my 450 and now 63
Hi all ... new to forum. Am getting ready to purchase a '21 GLE 53 - until I saw this thread.
I am not a tire guy so bear with me -- I live in New England and need to make sure I can get decent all season tires for this rig before I purchase ... has Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on it now and best I can tell those are Summer tires.
I just need to make sure I have options .... and apparently expensive ones .... love the car overall but I need to justify the 22's over finding another one with 21's ...

Thanks in advance, enjoy the weekend!
I love my '23 GLE. I ordered it with 22s and have a second set of 21s with dedicated winter tires. All seasons won't cut it for anything other than very light snow with 22s, so I bought a floor jack and a torque wrench and just swapped my wheels in my garage. Beats the $150 per season I was paying for a mobile installer to do it for me.
My advice would be to go aftermarket 21s with all seasons or 22s with two sets.
I just put Pirelli Scorpion Zero all seasons on my GLE63s with the factory 22" rims. I debated going with 21" but the overall width is very similar so there was no reason to bother switching to 21". I absolutely love the Pirellis so far, they are quiet and perform well in dry and wet. I haven't yet tested them in the snow but the reviews I've read say they perform decently. If I were to go with a dedicated winter tire, I'd step down to 20" but I'm not a fan of how those look.
I also have the Pirelli Scorpions on my 21 GLE63 with 22’s. There isn’t any other choice at this point that I’m aware of. Had them on a couple of snow and mud days here in the NE and considering the complaints I heard, they’ve been pretty good. No 22 tire runs super quite or soft so that aside, it’s been pretty grippy and worked in light snow and surprisingly in deep mud one day.
I have managed to find 2 rear scorpion in 22” but am being told they are discontinued. Can I put scorpion 2 on the front and older scorpion on rears? Or is it not advisable?
TIA

Yes. Matching the front and the rear of newer/older tire models is something I do all the time. I'm currently running older/newer versions of MPS A/S front and rear on my GTR due to one tire getting a nail and not wanting to replace all 4 tires since they were nearly new but a discontinued model.

I don’t see why not. They may not match visually (but only if you look closely), but other than that it shouldn’t matter.

@mr inkredibul I am working on a MY25 GLE53 build using the 5/11/24 DOG. Currently thinking about either the RXV 22" Matte Black, or the RPG 22". Both staggered options come fitted with summers. I live in the Midwest and need a winter solution. Saw your post, and you did with your '23 GLE what I did with my '14 E63 (dedicated aftermarket (BBS) winter wheels and tires). My summer OEM set is staggered, my winter set is a square setup. Questions:
1. Is your winter set of 21" a square or staggered setup?
2. What wheels and tires did you go with?
3. Options you considered?
4. Tire Rack?
Thanks in advance. Thinking we're not the only 22" GLE53 buyers/owners in the Midwest who would be grateful to have this information.

@mr inkredibul Here’s the winter solution recon I was able to do at Tire Rack:
22” Options
Tires: Pirelli Scorpion Winter, staggered. $3,313
Wheels: Not available
Have not been able to verify wheel offsets and if there’s anything different required if spec’ing the GLE53 with the optional AMG High-Performance Braking System (U29), which I would like.
Not crazy about these wheel options. At least when I got the winter set for my E63, Tire Rack carried a BBS wheel that looks great.
Thought I saw that Blizzaks were also an option for the 21” and 20” tires.

Hi! I went with a Staggered Verenstein WinTrac Pro winter tires from tire rack for my 21" inch winter setup. They are a swedish tire that is rated higher than the Pirellis and Blizzaks and also a whole lot cheaper.
I ordered custom wheels from CarID.com where I get a lot of my vehicle wheels from.
Also I have the 63 braking system with the 6-piston red calipers. I think they are marginally bigger including the rotors than the U29 package. I always select GLE63 when selecting wheel options to ensure clearance.

@mr inkredibul Great info. Thanks. Good tip re clearances to select 63. I get squeamish with non-OEM wheels and getting the offsets exactly the same. I suppose I could buy a second set of 21" or even 20" OEM wheels, but those are typically stupid expensive. I'll check out CarID!

Curious why you get squeamish about aftermarket wheels. I actually added spacers to my OEM 22s. I'm not a huge fan of the tucked look especially with a vehicle this big with fenders as wide as they are.

Squeamish purely as a function of having gone through it with my E63. Took a lot of effort to find a wheel and tire combo that worked, with the right offsets, with the right style/appearance. And even then, it's a close but not exact fitment. Was just lamenting having to go through that exercise again.

Gotcha. I do rather enjoy that exercise lol. But CarID guarantees fitment. They are knowledge and they work with the wheel manufacturers to cut the wheels. For my GTR, I ordered some from the site and got a call asking if they were ok if they sent a difference office because the fronts needed 3 more mm to clear my front calipers. Sure enough when I received the wheels, they cleared my fronts by millimeters!
