Did they let you test drive? Since this isn't the coupe - I am wondering how different these drive compared to the first gen.

I've had a '21 GLE63s for a little over a month now and traded in a '13 ML63 for it. The ML63 was not stock however and had a Weistec tune.

I haven't put too many miles on the GLE63 yet and am still in the break-in period but my initial thoughts are
  • Using my VBOX, I was regularly seeing 1/4 mile times around 11.9 - 12.0s in my ML63. Don't recall 0-60 times off the top of my head.
  • GLE63 has a much quicker throttle response and suspension is firmer and overall feels faster, but no measurements yet.
  • Steering and pedal feel is much heavier in the GLE63. Steering wheel is thinner than in the ML63 and oddly shaped. I prefer the ML steering wheel.
  • GLE63 is larger/taller than the ML63 and definitely feels like it when you drive

Are the driving characteristics about the same? I know all out sheer speed new one will be faster but I love the driving characteristics of the first gen coupe.

I'd say overall the new one is better. Gives you a better feel for the road and I think will handle curves much better than the older chassis.

Just got to ride in one a little while ago and it was great; I would buy the coupe if I was buying.

I bought a GLE63S 11/5/2020. I paid Fletcher Jones $140,000 plus my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland V8, but that includes the extended warranty and service plan (no loan or lease, I'm not a debt slave). Despite the 22" wheels and huge tires, it rides smoother than the Grand Cherokee. I'm busy and realized that these things sell quickly, so it has a few options I might not have wanted. I might not have gotten the AMG Night Package if I'd not seen it, but now like it very much. To most people, it is just another white mid-sized SUV. I might even paint the brake calipers black. I'm in southern California, so Mercedes-Benz SUVs are relatively common. I use it for work, and have already driven it to the San Francisco Bay area and back through Bakersfield for work. It is almost the same size as the Grand Cherokee, but the rear seat is much more spacious, and the seats recline and slide, so it will be nicer for going places with other people. The cargo compartment is also larger, and that makes it easier for me to carry test equipment and tools for work, and the old radios which I collect and restore for fun. Thus far, the fuel mileage is as good or better than that achieved by the Grand Cherokee V8. Mine is white with the black Nappa leather interior, and has the following options: AMG Carbon Fiber Trim; AMG performance steering wheel; 22" forged wheels; multi-contour seats and massage (really nice); panorama sunroof; trailer hitch; power second row; 4-zone climate control (gimmick); soft close doors; rapid heated seats; wheel locking bolts; Driver Assistance Package; and AMG Night Package.

Production Delay

I ordered my 2021 GLE 63s sometime ago but the local dealer didn’t have a build allocation until the 3rd week of November. Now the build date is delayed until December. Anyone else experienced a delay in their build and if so do you know why?

I ordered mine back in December and waited 10 months for delivery. My build was delayed 4 times obviously due to the pandemic which has caused the factory to shut down for a period of time and an on-going parts shortage. However, build times for the 63 models has always been long. I'm told there just isn't a huge demand for them so the factory only schedules builds when they've received enough orders. This is my 3rd GLE/ML63 and I always custom order my cars. This one actually took the least amount of time to arrive. The other 2 took a full year to arrive once ordered. My Jaguars also usually take 6-12 months so I've learned to be patient and plan far in advance.
