2021 GLE53 - Transmission Issues
Hello. Returning forum member here after 10 years away from Benz.
I spec’d out / ordered a 2021 GLE53 that was delivered 7 months ago. Since I brought it home I have noticed a slight transmission thump /thud when slowing down to a stop sign or red light (always when in Comfort- automatic). Looking at the HUD it is when the car downshifts from 3rd to 2nd gear. After about 30 days I asked the dealer about it and they said the car is learning my driving style and give it 1,000 miles (ummm ok?). Car now has 7k on it and continues to have same issue so I took it in to be looked at. Service technician found metal shavings in transmission, sent pictures to engineering team in Germany, and local dealer was told a new transmission and torque converter were being shipped to be installed next week. Has anyone else had this issue? Hoping this fixes the issue. Comments welcome

On my wife’s ‘21 GLE350, totally different story. She turns if off every time she starts the vehicle, as the transition is really noticeable and it’s always lunging when starting off/on to the point of being a nuisance.

My wife 2022 53.
its annoying
if I drive in sport or sport plus it still does it
If I use the paddles, it does not
really hope i dont need a new trans
we only have 1100 miles

I also have exactly the same problem, the car is 2021, the master has so far calibrated the gearbox and the kicks have become less noticeable but still remain, the author, give me your contacts, I want to write to you

Man, this thing just does not shift well. Mine hesitates and hunts on upshifts and clunks on downshifts.
I’m just thinking out loud here, but having owned a 2020 BMW X5 M50i with a ZF transmission that shifted invisibility and like butter, there must have been some convincingly eager but overall dumb engineer at MB that said I can build us a transmission and save MB $X dollars. All I can say is this, it wasn’t worth it because this transmission is garbage.

I have a 2023 GLE53 and it's doing exactly the same thing with the trans thump/thud when slowing down and when accelerating in traffic around 10mph.

I am having the same issue since my 2022 GLE53 was new. I was told it would improve. It hasn't. In addition, the rear end is making a faint clucking sound when giving it throttle when there is slack in the dricvetrain. I am taking it in tomorrow. How did you get them to replace your faulty tranny?

Hi I’m from Ecuador , mi GLE 53 AMG SUV since 7.000 klm is giving me same issues in slow traffic it’s also giving me issues from 0 klm speed increasing very slow speed and turning all the wheels as I’m making kind of a turn around and suddenly the transmission , electric motor or engine don’t know what’s exactly happening, but the car is trembling all, while doing this Normal maneuver.
now it’s 10.000 trying again, reporting and trying to explain again the dealer to see how they can solve this matter, won’t like to have a part broken with my new car.

My 2021 GLE63S has been doing the same thing since the beginning. When coasting to a stop light, there is a noticeable 'shift shock' when the tranny shifts down from 3 to 2.
Brough this up to the MB service department when I took it in for an annual service at 11,000 miles in March 2023. The invoice shows "Cause: 540991 Program and code control unit. Found no codes related to the concern. Performed shift adaptations and transmission control unit software update. Road tested vehicle and verified vehicle shifted normal."
I'm still getting the shift shock, but it may be a little less noticeable. At least the problem is documented in case the tranny goes south some day.......

The only thing I would complaint about Merc 53 models is the car never go down to 3rd gear when full throttle regardless of speeding. For example the range of 3rd gear is 40 - 130km/hr. When you kick down during that speed the car will only shifted down to 4rd gear. You have to manually shift to 3rd gear. I would love to have my car even shift to 2rd during 40-80. That would be so much fun and louddddd.
