New guy question on the GLE AMG 53

Hello. You all post some great information on here. I placed an order for an AMG 53 Coupe, however, i am confused on something the dealer told me and wanted to know if it is the norm. They told me that there would be a $15,000 AMG fee that will be added to my final build because it is new. Is that the norm or is this dealership trying to get over on me?

That is a true "STEALER" dealer in action. If people keep paying the absurd adjusted prices the dealers will keep doing it. JUST SAY NO! I did and paid less...

It's the dealership charging a markup.

Thanks for that information. I am heading over to talk to them today about the order request i made with them. I thought it didn't sound right, but with it being my first MB ordering, i wasn't sure. I am going to turn them down and shop around with some other dealers, even if they are out of state.

Try negotiating with an offer.
Include any dealer options and / or warranty packages, and talk "out the door" numbers.
Make it clear that you are a Buyer Today.7

On another note, I am also looking into ordering a GLE and was informed by my dealer that markup for a 53 is 10k out of market and 5k for in market buyers. The 63s is 20k and 10k respectively.

I may be able to get lower markup since I've been servicing my ML430 with them since 2000

I'm shocked the markup on these cars is still so high in places. I was able to put in an order for GLE 53 SUV at MSRP and without any added dealer extras (tint, paint protection, etc.) and I've only bought one car from the dealership in the past. Interestingly, my dealer told me they had a lot of allocations for GLE 53 Coupes available (he showed me the screen with the slots and not many of them were reserved). They know I'm bringing a trade so they'll probably screw me over there, haha.

I was watching a video on YouTube of a walk-around for a GLE 53 Coupe (because I wanted to see what Diamond White looked like) that a dealership posted. The car was listed for $118,475, exactly $20,000 over an identical configuration on the website with the same listed options. Blows my mind.

Which dealer sold at MSRP? I'm getting ready to order the GLE 53.

thanks.

If you're in SoCal I can refer you to someone. I ordered about a year ago and took delivery last December so things may have changed since. But you can try.

Negotiated with full msrp offer for cash/wire same day and stealers greed denied it even though they have had the vehicle more than two months. They are just plain greedy and I informed them it was my only and final offer AND if they attempt after week or more to reach back for the same offer, it will be off the the table and furthermore will “hurt” should we arrive at an amenable deal. Buying cars in the rarified air of $150k+ with dealers assuming their product justifies it will soon backfire. MB North Olmstead will soon be begging for buyers and future deals will be less than ideal for buyers of cars every year or two..

The market IS softening and I have talked to several in high end markets stated so. Clearly some stealers don’t get it and will be happy to bend them over as usual with car stealers. The chips and supply chain issues are largely abated yet they want to use it as an excuse. Tell me how I know being a Fortune 500 c-level leader…

I wish, he’s got a cool Australian accent that I wish I had. I grabbed his contact off of here once I think, called him up and he was straight forward with setting me up for my order. I used to do retail sales when I was younger, so whenever someone treats me well I return the favor.

It sounds like you view this as a game with bragging rights. I'll bet they don't see you as a real buyer, which IMO is the first step in negotiating.

You seem not to need or want a car right now, so you can win your contests. The situation changes when people don't have that luxury and actually need a car. They need to negotiate, not throw out numbers to see if one sticks.

Supply chains are deteriorating, not improving. Many smart people think the suppliers' pain is just beginning. Smaller companies with growing pressures.

See Ford's problems with incomplete autos and the concern that this will worsen for 12 - 24 more months. Even with a Soft Landing to this "almost a Recession."

It's not a good time to buy a car right now, but calling the Top of the Demand vs. Supply is difficult.
I'm going to need a car in December, so I'll be negotiating instead of waiting for things to change.

I've never gotten my first offer, but I've always gotten the "better than expected" deal.

BTW I don't bother with the "walk out of the showroom" tactic. I sit there, taking up space, until they come back and start negotiating. Even after the salesperson and floor manager have initially decided to lose their opportunity to sell me a car. Sometimes it takes a different arrow from your quiver.

Mikapen - you have a history here of being an antagonist well proven by your history of posts. Clearly you use this forum as your FB version of spewing your hate for differing opinions. That’s your right even if you don’t afford the same to others.

I have the means, perhaps, that can and will bend the methods that unscrupulous dealers are using despite the actual softening market. Those that chose to overpay from the established MSRP only feed the animal and you clearly support it. The “game” as you put it is I have it and they want it which is exactly how it was designed. It’s only a game for me to get the best deal I feel is appropriate. Your opinion in the matter is of NO value. Proof… step up from a 53 to a 63 and then you MIGHT have a point here. Barring that, I suggest you stay in your swim lane. Just a suggestion…

I'm not OP and I hate the idea of paying markups, but I'm not sure I agree with you on market softening. This is the inventory link for GLE53. I've never seen more than 10 units available for sale nationwide in the US. It's been at 1 unit for the past 3 months. My GLE53 order was submitted Sep'21 and it has been postponed forever along with everyone else's (as you might have seen in other threads). I fall in the rare category of "can afford to wait". So, I don't think it's a buyer market yet for AMGs.

As a generalization I find it a best practice not to boast or assume who has more means. There are people on this forum who could buy your company (if you have one) and turn it into a parking lot and you never know who they are.

Dealerships are absolute slime *****, I negotiated a deal for a new 2021 63S back in '21 with a dealership in Colorado @145k only to have them tell me the next day that it was now at 155k and they were shopping it around.

This is the same nonsense going on with Urus right now with these clowns wanting to charge 30-50k above MSRP with the refresh and performante about to hit the streets and refusing to give you allocation until you buy a current model/have a current Urus.

It's all about relationships and finding an ethical dealership and building a relationship with them that honor repeat customers. Bought the 53 from my dealer on condition they'd give me first 2023 allocation for a 63s (passed on a 2022 even though they called me as soon as they opened back up) thinking it'd be the refresh turns out it's 24 and now I can't get high end 3D, pure comedy.

It's always a good idea to leave a deposit with a signed contract. Then it's legal contract.
