GLE53 21" Tires
Hello, After much back and forth, I have ordered the MO1 Continental all-season tires to replace the summer tires this car came through with in March. The expense and hassle of maintaining two sets of tires isn't worth it to me, at this point anyway, since I don't have to venture out in severe weather here in Mass. Also, the stickiness of these summer tires has left me with road rash around all the wheel wells, which I am not too pleased about. They pick up everything on the roads. They do corner nicely, however. What are other owners in the Northeast or other winter climates preparing to do?
The cost of a winter tire/wheel setup is a lot. Tire Rack doesn't have rims for all 4. Meanwhile, why would I get and AMG to drive around with cheap aftermarket rims for 5 months out of the year?
Anyway, this is my own analysis.

You will like the Conti's. I'm generally not a Continental fan, and I was disappointed when they showed up on my ordered car.
But I really like these 21 inchers. Responsive, don't tramline, do well at the track until they overheat, and are excellent in the wet, kind of refusing to aquaplane. They wear well.
I was tempted to use them all year round, but since I want this to be a go anywhere anytime car and not be limited by tires, I got Pirelli Winters. I live in Colorado BTW.

I'll be in the same situation. Mine is supposed to arrive around Thanksgiving. Been researching all season tires - I ordered with 21's. Looking for the best option...I'm in NH.

I received my GLE 63S with those 21 inch Conti All-season tires on it and only 5,100 miles on the odometer. Based on my experience this past winter, I wouldn't try to use them in the snow!! Even in my concrete driveway which was only a 1%-2% slope, I would slide all the way down as soon as I hit the brakes if there was just a little snow on it.
Since you live in MA, I strongly recommend you use dedicated winter tires.

My all seasons arrived today, so I will be giving them a try. My 2022 GLE450 with the same wheel setup was capable enough, but 2022 wasn't a bad winter here either. Thanks for the input, and I hope others share their experiences as they occur.

I had the Conti's installed yesterday. I am amazed at the ride improvement over the Conti Sport 6's that came on the car in March. I have not noticed that they handle worse. I will see how they do in winter. I expect them to be adequate for my limited need to be out in bad weather. With the size of these wheels, I have no capacity to store an extra set! Last time I will get such an obnoxious wheel setup.

When that's happened to me with traffic approaching, I never know whether I should blast the horn, try to spin the car, or hustle on through.
What's your solution? Mine is to ponder what tires to get later that day... while hoping someone can stop.😧
Actually, when it's about 25F to 32F, nothing sticks except studs or embedded granules. The ice melts under the weight, and not much is slipperier (?) than water on warm ice.

FYI - I was looking at these Conti's (CONTI CROSS CONTACT LX SPORT) for the winter and swapping back to the stock high performance for the summer. Basically a swap every spring/fall. But, if they ride well, I may just leave them on. They got good reviews all around.

Agree. That's certainly not fun.

The Continental Cross Contact Sport MO1's ride & corner exceptionally well. I tire shop in my town offered to store tires for me for free, but I was disinclined to spend thousands to maintain two sets of tires, travel 30 minutes each way and spend a half of a day in a tire shop twice a year while they switched them. I put the summers at the curb and they were gone in one hour. I will not miss them. I have road rash around all the wheel wells from those tires picking up everything off the roads. All seasons is what I thought was ordered six months ago, and I am happy that I now have them, just not the extra expense.

I’m not sure I understand your question. I didn’t order my car. It just came with the 21” rims and two different tire sizes. I was just wondering if anyone had thought about changing out the tires to all match.
