Running Boards for 2024 GLE63s

Just purchased a 2024 Alpine Grey color GLE63s. I see several with or without Running Boards. The OEM appear to be only 5" wide and not sure if they are adequate width for a step. The car is being shipped from Florida and wanted to get some feedback on height of the car and need for Running Boards vs not. My wife is about 5'4 and she will be the only driver.

5'4" is probably the cusp of usefulness of the running boards. Do you have winters and a lot of rain where you live?

IMO running boards add greatly to the GLE's looks, but are functionally useless except to help small kids climb aboard. I recommend them for the looks.

Yes, you are right about the 5' 4" being at the cusp. No snow here but quite a bit of rain.

I was hoping to get more functionality out of them, than just the looks. They do add to the look though.

Hard to put your step on the Factory ones and wondering electric deployable Running Boards may be the way to go. Have not seen any that Mercedes offers so may have to find decent aftermarket ones.

The only times I have used mine were during a major rainstorm and had to hop over an overflowing curb, and hopping over slush during a trip to the mountains. My kid uses them to hop in and out but doesn't really need it either since kids love climbing anyway. I'm SoCal based so I mostly have them for aesthetics like the other user mentioned above.

My wife is 5'3" and doesn't like running boards.

I think the running boards look good with some colors but not others.
For instance, if you have a black package, the lines might conflict on a darker car. But without the black package, they seem to enhance the lines.
Eye of the beholder and all that.

I've seen a few instances where owners have custom painted them like this:
https://mbworld.org/forums/market/900321
(side note: this is fully loaded with CCB and seems like a really great deal)

I had thought about custom painting mine but I think the sharp contrast of the brushed aluminum against black has grown on me.

Mine actually impede entry and exit somewhat. I think they are useless at least for us. We don't have small kids. They look cool, but that's about it

Probably the best choice for you.

I wouldn't plan on putting them on later, though. It's quite a task.
There have been several rather lengthy threads about how to do it and how to find the missing pieces.

They could be better and wider but they’re not useless. I use them sometimes, just depends on how I’m getting into the car and how wide I can open door depending on the car next to me or if I’m carrying stuff to throw in the passenger seat.

Does anyone have a picture of a GLE53 or GLE 63 without the running boards? Curious to see how that looks. I may remove mine

Just search for GLE cars on autotrader to find pics of them without running boards.

Personally I feel the car looks way better without running boards.

I am 5'10" and my wife is 5'7". We have 2024 GLE63s and find it bit tall when going up and down. We have to slide up and down initially. I think we will wear out the leather somewhat.
What we did to make it bit easir was following. We stored the seat position M3 all the way down. And before we get to the final destination, we hold the button #3 down so the seat goes all the way down.
When we re-enter the vehicle, seat is about 1.5" lower for easier entry. There is nothing to grab or pull on when you are pushing yourself up. I was going to ask the MB Service Dept for possible step installation but silver step may not go well with 2024 GLE 63s with 22" AMG black matte wheel with night package.

I agree I have the RB's on my '24 GLE 53 coupe they look great on the car, and I use them every day I am 5'10, and I step onto them with foot "sideways" makes it easier to get in w/o daily rubbing of the seat edges

I use our running boards almost every time I exit vehicle, wife about 1/2 the time . I'm 5'8 wife 4'11. In fact I buy CPO and am currently looking to replace our 2018 GLE 43 with a 2024 or so GLE 580 with the running boards, as we find them very useful.

Did yours come with the running board from the factory? I am trying to figure out what would be the best way to put one on.
Would factory running board fit in with this black trim on the side?

I think you would have to ask the dealer on that one mine were an "ordered option" on the build, so came from the factory I would have to imagine for sure they could be added

When I first got my GLE 43 I didn't like the running boards, until I realized I used them almost every time I exited the vehicle. Before I decided to keep them I was looking to remove them. When you do that you would need the entire trim piece that is on in place of the running boards. It's easier to just remove then to put OEM running boards on, there is a lot of wiring envolved. There are lots of clones on eBay, that don't have the LED lightning. Good luck with it.
