Engine Temp - High

I have 2018 GLE63s AMG that i bought used about a year ago. The engine temperature gauge has ALWAYS been at the midway mark, however, this past week I've noticed that it's much higher and closer to the 75% marking and this is under normal driving conditions. Last year, in the Summer (90's) I drove it more aggressively and again always at mid-level. This is not normal, correct, for it to all of a sudden be acting this way. Of note, a couple of weeks ago the low coolant level indicator light came on and I've since topped it off, which has gotten rid of the indicator light. Not sure if these coincide?

Some engines have two coolant reservoirs, I assume there is no leaks or leaks that is very visible?

yeah no leaks and after topping off the low coolant light went out. I’m calling the dealer this morning.

I see, hope it is a quick in and out fix. Still concerned why coolant is being consumed in the first place.

Got it scheduled to bring in Monday.....will post when I hear more. Granted when i topped off it was only a very little that needed to be added. I would think on a 7 year old vehicle their may be some sort of loss due to evaporation? IDK

Oh gotcha then ya it might be normal just not sure why the engine temperature is still so high. Obviously you have the vehicle booked in already so you might not want to bother scanning the vehicle for codes but if you are curious you may.

There are valves that open and close based on temperature and one may have become sticky--though that would usually cause serious overheating with bells and alarms going off. Curious to hear what it is. Good luck!

Are we thinking about a stuck thermostat?

. Exactly. If you turn up the heat and fan to Maximum while you're driving does the engine temp go down?
does temp go up when you're driving uphill?

Windshield Washer Fluid Heat Exchanger

I have a 21 GLE63 and the washer fluid heat exchanger failed. I have seen at least one other post on this same issue. I never noticed the temperature climb though. I just smelled the coolant smell. Dealer could not locate a leak. I kept topping it off until it one week it came out of the windshield reservoir. I took it to another dealer and they confirmed that there is a heat exchanger in the reservoir and it was faulty. It was replaced under warranty but the US and Germany did not have one. Car sat for months at the dealership waiting for the part. MB said they would compensate me for the time lost without the vehicle but six months after the repair I have only received one phone call and still no compensation.

That is an interesting cause for high oil temperature, thanks for posting and sharing.

His picture shows the water temperature elevated above center. Not the oil temp

Your digital gauge shows the water temp at 198 degrees. That is not hot for normal driving. My car gets up to 210-212 degrees in traffic. Maybe something is wrong with the physical gauge (assuming the digital gauge is correct).
