Lexus IS300...Thinking about GLK
GLK...looks like a wagon?

When I saw the GLK online, it looked so beautiful, and for the price I thought it was the best bang for your buck based on its specs. I went to the dealer, considering to purchase one...buttt...I am not sure if its due to the colour (it was a dark blue), but I thought it looked alot like a wagon. The side and back reminded me of the Forester. I am planning to go again when the dealer gets one in white, but did anyone get the same vibe?

I thought the hood was too long for it's proportions when I saw it on the lot yesterday.

Try doing a search for the W204 C-Class Estate (wagon) that the rest of the world can choose.

Yes, it's a fine looking car, but it will not be available in North America. The GLK, based on the same chassis, takes its place. The GLK also has more cargo room than the estate.

In about a year's time, you will likely see a GLK with a 4 cylinder 168 hp turbo diesel engine, likely called GLK 220 Bluetec. The same engine will be offered in the C Class.

The GLK looks like a wagon?...mission accomplished for MB! That was pretty much what they were shooting for, but they knew the U.S. wouldn't buy it if it were a real wagon (estate) so they camouflaged it a bit. I like the estate on steroids look myself, although I will agree there are a few styling cues that seem repeated in the market place.

It does look alot like a wagon and I agree it does have strong outward similarities to a Forester. I find the GLK looks more striking in the showroom vs. the pictures on the various MB sites. I expect to hear lots of comments about my ugly new 'car' from my co-workers. It might not be pretty but it is functional and a better value than the X3.

I can't wait until next week when my ugly little GLK is parked in my driveway!!

What were you expecting, a Ferrari ?

Of course it looks like a wagon, because that's what all SUV type vehicles really are. Never mind the marketing names like SUV or Crossover, these are simply synonyms for "wagon". There's nothing wrong with this; "wagons" have been a practical concept for many decades. For some strange reason, some North Americans have a problem with the term "wagon".

As far as the styling of the GLK is concerned, IMO, it's the best looking "SUV" in the Mercedes stable. It is most certainly better styled than any Japanese competitor or imitator, such as the Acura RDX/MDX, the Lexus RX400 (surely one of the ugliest cars on the planet !), the Toyota Highlander or the Subaru Forester.

A two dimensional photograph does not communicate very effectively the sculptural qualities of the GLK ; it looks so much better in real life.

Lexus IS300...Thinking about GLK
Went back today and took a look at the white one. Im back to really liking it now. Seems like such a great bang for the buck for a benz. For those who have already put one on order, did you compare to any other vehicles? In particular the Lexus RX?

Good one. I would like to hear about this too. IMO, there is a more fundamental difference but let's see what the current/soon 2 be owners say first.

To each his own, but i for one prefer the c estate over the GLK....I don't like the 'poseur' look of the GLK, and I like the smooth lines of the estate.

And to the OP....what is wrong with wagons??? they drive better and look better than SUV/CUV or whatever the GLK is considered.

I was getting an oil change on my wife's W204 and they had a bright red GLK in the sportier trim. IMO it looked pretty darn nice looking in that red. They had a white one with the base wheels and if it didn't have the huge star on the grille I swore I was looking at a mini 1st gen Toyota Highlander or the 2nd gen Subaru Forester, anything but a premium brand offering when seen from a distance. My wife and I are set on getting a wagon for our next car as we now have a little one on the way. That said we would have traded up to a W204 Estate in a heartbeat if we got those in North America, unfortunately the shorter rear end and hatch on the GLK looks like less space than even our sedan W204, I find it hard to believe some of you feel this GLK has more room and gargo space than the W204 Estate? We will likely be looking at a new BMW or Volvo to replace our W204 sedan since MB won't give us a proper offering, it's too bad because we love our W204 and I was set on getting another MB.

Nah, it looks like a hatchback!

Maybe the reason I admire the GLK's looks are its resemblance to my first fast car, a Mkll VW Golf GTI. It has the same two-boxy, forward leaning stance. It's about equal measure longer and wider than a Golf, too. It's an ideal shape, from every perspective other than aerodynamics. Easy to enetr and load, easy to see out of, and for me, extremely easy to look at. I expect to buy my GLK within a month or so.

I owned one until recently and I loved it. Very practical and the V-6 engine was the smoothest engine I have ever owned Mine was black.
