Just took delivery..

My Arctic White GLk 4Matic finally arrived...My order sheet was short. Appearance package, Full leather, I pod intergration and xenon lights. I decided that I neither needed nor would use some of the options offered in the MMI and P1 package.

I was given $2300.00 of the final price.

My first driving impressions are positive so far. My only complaint are the brakes. I find myself depressing the pedal more than I did on my RAV 4. I will give it a couple of weeks. Might have to get used to the different brake feel. The vehicle is very comfortable. It handles rather well so far. My only real gripe is that I can't believe that a cargo cover is not standard. Seems like everything for now is a la carte..

Any opinions or comments that would help me with my new purchase would be grateful..

Regards

Rey

Congrats!

I really like the look of Arctic White GLK. Post some picture.

I would purchase a Rim(wheel) lock for your ride, it’s a small price to pay for piece of mind.

Here is the OEM part # for Rim(wheel) locks, if you are interested.

Yes, the brakes are soft, too soft to comfort. I am actually thinking to schedule a meeting with the tech. I'm a bit used to it now, just have to start braking early on but in my opinion this soft brake is not acceptable.

what's 2300 off the final price? what is your final final price? :P

Cargo cover not standard equipment?

In Canada the cargo cover is included as well as the mesh barrier net and folding crate.

What gives?

Yeah, seems the Canadian version has a lot included. All I got was a plastic folding crate - no mesh barrier net or cargo cover. I had to put in an order for that --- $250+

Speednme, congratulations on your new ride! I too noticed the brake feeling when I test drove it but I chalked it up to that is how MB's are. I don't drive it every day because it is my wife's but I don't even think about it now when I do drive it. It is just like me always using the cruise control lever as a turn signal at first and since I got used to it, I don't.

If you read the MB manual, it says that breaks have to be broken in for sometime and feel less effective, this will go away after some time.

I noted this when I took GLK for test drive in Jan, when it had barely any miles. When I took another one in March break feel was much better.

Also, from several reviews, it seems that break pedal is progressive, which means first half of the pedal travel does less half of the breaking, so you need to push it pretty hard to get breaks to work.

^what you say is that the 'brake force' to 'pedal travel' curve is exponential.

sort of, I guess if it's non-linear it's some sort of exponential curve. I guess we got somebody with engineering background.

Congrats and welcome the GLK world. Enjoy the ride. Make sure you take care of that leather. This is main reason I opted not to take it (besides saving money and cows) I know I won't keep it looking good for very long.

I agree that P1 is not worth it unless you love sunroof and need memory seats (aka myself). Not sure about MM. To me premium sound with hard drive and bigger LCD make it worth it but that's me.

So how does GLK compare to RAV4 in terms of driving...How old was RAV4?

Thank you..

RAV 4 was a 2005 model. The Rav was smaller and felt like I could throw it anywhere. Not a bad truck(if you can call it that). The suspension was pretty forgivng but that could be that the RAV 4 had meatier tires. As far as speed goes the Rav4 was lacking in that department(but good enough to get you around).

The GLK drives better in terms torque/speed but the weight of the Glk is felt in the handling. The steering is a little lighter than the RAV 4(which is something I need to get used to). The wheels (20in) are not as bad as I thought it would be but it could definetly use meaty tires(I guess in due time I will experiment with other tires). Overall I'm loving the GLK.

My girlfriend is convince I drive with patience now...(must be the comfort)

^^^driving with patience is what I need, means GLK is good choice for me hahaha. I'm also getting 20's and thinking of putting wider tires (255), when original tires are done. You are not implying RAV had better handling are you? I'm driving 03 mtarix, which actually has pretty stiff suspension and steering, but I felt more confindent going in turns in GLK on the test drive.
