Wind noise & UMI

Picked up my new GLK last week. I noticed that when driving around 40-50 mph there is a whistling noise on the passenger side of the vehicle. I don't know if its because of the roof rails or something else. Have any of you experienced this?

Also, what are your experiences using the UMI navigation? The dealer said that they have not included maps of Honolulu Hawaii so I have not been able to use it yet. Thanks for your time.

Can't say I've noticed any difference in that particular speed range. In fact, I've been pleased at how relatively quiet the GLK is considering the .35 Cd.

My GLK is quieter than my E350... No problems so far 3,000 miles in 5 months.

I would say the GLK is much quieter... Ensure its not a vent, just and see if they are all opened and all the way.

I did and all vents are open, the noise starts at around 55 miles and above. its very noticeable, it could be a rubber seal some where. but since others are having the same issue god knows what it could be.

Hey AJGLK, you may want to go into the dealer where you bought and have a mechanic listen for the noise. Better yet, take your salesman and ask to see if he notices any noise while you're driving at 55. Good Luck and advise of your findings.

I drove over 1000kms this weekend and I have the same setup as you. No wind noise. I am pretty sure I drove way faster than 55mph as well

I have 2010 GLK350. I have same problem. I noticed that when driving around 45 mph (1.5K RPM) there is a whistling noise on the passenger side of the vehicle. Last month, I took it to service and he said he never heard of that problem and reported it to manufacturer. After a month, I still have same problem and no fix from Mercedez. Has anyone had this problem and been fixed?

If you're revving at 15k rpm I'd open up the hood and see if any pistons are coming through the top of the cylinder head!

I wrote my comments in the thread that I created.... mine still makes the noise and my head tech, assistant service manager, service manager, service advisor, shop foreman have all heard it.... they are all perplexed and this it has something to do with the A/C airbox in the hood but I still think it has to do with the seals. i know that the two plastic pieces that go along the side of the windshield do not sit flush when they connect at the top of the windshield. i just had my service go inspect other GLKs because on my car, you can fit parts of your finger in between the top of that plastic piece and where it connects to the roof.

Found this from a post in January 2010 about this complaint...

Air dampers are internal air duct *rudders* in a way... they direct air to different parts of the car via small air pipes (ducts) throughout the dash.... The air enters the external vents at the base of the windshield, and these dampers are electronically controlled to redirect the air (after it has been conditioned by cold or hot) to the places you wish. If one or more of these duct dampers sticks open a little... it can cause a whistle as you drive, as air is forced through the gap...
