Xenon Lamp Flicker over sharp bumps?

I'm not one to start complaining about my new car and I doubt anything is wrong here. But i want to check and see if this is a normal thing for the GLK....

Recently I drove my new GLK for several hours in the dark. The lighting is excellent with the Bi-Xenon lamps. Nice and bright. But I notice when I drive over sharp bumps or cracks it seems like there is some shake in the light. I know xenons are more sensitive to bumps and my old Mazda used to do this a little bit. But it appears to me that only the driver side light is doing this flickering. Its not terrible, just a slight annoyance. Maybe the bulb itself is a little loose?

Has anybody else noticed this with thier cars as well? I won't take it to the dealer unless it gets worse.

Just thought I would ask others here.

There is an auto self leveling system built into the headlight assembly... it may be broken... have it checked out.

This is 'normal' behaviour I believe on the cars with the lighting package. The steering/leveling mechanism obviously has some 'play' in it, and hence tends to make the lights 'wiggle' over bumps, etc. I doubt there's anything wrong.

If you go over sharp bumps like in thread title and it shakes/wobbles a bit to auto adjust then that seems normal.

However, if it "flickers over sharp bumps" then I would take it in to get it checked; they shouldn't be flickering.

The lights are not losing power or anything like that. It just seems they get "jolted" and move a little bit very fast. Like if you were to take your hand with the Lights on and smack the lens (I have not done this and would strongly advice against it!). There is just a quick movement.

Think of it like tapping a lightbulb when turn on. The filament wiggles very quickly and then stops. But while it moves the light in the room would move around a little.

I think it this is normal. Its probably just more noticeable because the Xenon produce such a sharp bright light you just notice it more. Also my GLK has the 20" wheels which produce a little stiffer ride so this causes the impact over smaller bumps to bounce the car eeasier.

Next time any of you guys are driving around at night try and pay more attention to what I'm talking about. I bet others with the 20" wheels get this also. I know my GLK that had the 19" "Softer" tire and Halogens did not seem to do this. Or at least I did not notice it.

Thanks for your contributions guys!

No problemo! However, our GLK sport with Bi-Xenon's and 20" wheels doesn't do it.

Mine does it....like others have stated it's normal, especially noticable when waiting at a light behind an other car as the engine has some normal operating vibrations. Cool when you start the vehicle and the lights swivel...hehehe

Yes, exactly. Perhaps the better word was "Jiggle". So I'll assume most do this and the dealer will just say "Its Normal, they all do it." Fantastic!

This can get very annoying here in Colorado. Our roads are CRAP. This kind of stuff is getting on my nerves badly.

So I have had my car now for about two weeks. I officially conclude that Mercedes is selling this car cheaper than most Mercedes because thats what it is.....

A CHEAP BUILD

What other conculsion am I to reach?

Well it's not built like an S-Class that's for sure!

I still disagree with you though! I may, however, have a bias as my headlights DO NOT jiggle, my nuts are fine and I have a cargo cover.

Are you absolutely sure your lights don't Jiggle? Do yo uhave the 20" wheels or the 19" wheels?

Also, maybe its the tires being stiffer that causes the sharp Jiggle. Which tires do you have? I have the Dunlop GrandTrek. 20"

I have the the twin spoke 20's with pirellis. I'll look again this evening but I honestly haven't noticed anything of the sort. I do tons of night driving and our roads in Edmonton are brutal.

ALL lights in EVERY car "jiggles"... it's just a matter of how much is too much. My wifes GLK Sport doesn't wiggle... nada, ziltch... nothing that I would consider bothersome. As I said before... I would have that one or both headlamp assemblies checked out... it sounds as if the auto level system is broken.

By the way, those Dunlops have HALF the tread life of the Pirelli's and you paid the same for them.

At the rate I am going. I'll probably trade the POS before they wear out anyway.

I check de German forum every day and there was also a threat about the vibration of the ILS. Many owners went to their dealer and they had to replace the fixation of the ILS.
