Winter Tires - 17s or 18s?
I put 18's cause for looks only.. thought 17's would look way too small..
I'm in Edmonton... ruts in the winter and pot holes in the summer... the streets here blow year round.
Why does MB recommend the 17s?
I went with 235/55r17 Nokian Hak Rs on Slotted 5 Spoke MB Replicas (black & machined) from Kal Tire.
All and all a little pricier than the Tire Rack option but I like Kal Tire (I have always purchased my tires from there). The premium really is due to the Nokian tires... they are expensive but the best winters IMO.
They will be mounted next week... now we just need some snow!

Can't go wrong either way.. but a lot of people on here will fight my opinion....
I'm originally from Edmonton myself... I live in TO now.

Exactly my point G.. to each their own.. im simply letting people know there are other options other than the Benz 17" recommendation.
Benz also recomends that I take my truck in for a $300 oil change.. but that isn't happening. lol
Just joined this forum.
I bought a new 2008 RX400h last April. I live in Montreal and need winter tires, but don't want to pay the $3500 quoted by the Dealer. This price includes new rims, tires, sensors, and taxes.
Questions:
- can I install 17" on steel rims, (knowing that I cannot use sensors in steel wheels)? Will I face any major problems?
- how about installing 17" on aluminum rims with sensors?
- and finally, if I have to install 18" on aluminum with sensors, can Costco (or similar outfits) mount the tires and the sensors properly?
Thanks.
The clowns I used for snow clearing this year (Avalanche) seem to be off the ball, but it was no problem getting in or out of my driveway with these tires. Plus I got em each for $200 plus $60 install on the rims, which I also got for $100 each.
