Demo for $5000 off MSRP?

We are looking at a Demo GLK350 that has 5600 km on it. It has most of the options we want, and they will give us $5000 off MSRP, ($51375)is that a good deal or not? I was thinking it should be at least $1 per km.
It is cubanite silver ($890), has standard 19" rims, premium package ($2000), panoramic sunroof ($1500) and rear DVD's($2400). It also has a trailer hitch ($675) that I don't really care about. (not like I will be towing anything with a GLK!) It also has 3M on the hood already. (They say that is $995)
The only other option we wanted was the Bi-Xeon headlights and wood trim.
Selling price will be 46375 + GST. Any thoughts? They want the deal to go through before the end of today!
I told them if they can do $45000 + GST we have a deal.

Is that price in Canadian? Got brand new w/ Premium pkg, Multimedia, Appearance pkg, ipod adaptor for significantly less then that if price was in US dollars.

I would automatically deduct any stealer add ons. Even then that discount is still above invoice. You also do not say what the MY is. Keep in mind that demos have been titled and the warranty ticket punched. You therefore will wind up with less.

It's not a bad deal but not a great deal either. Since it is month end, quarter end and year end, and they can deliver today, you are in the driver seat.

Make a final offer that you would be happy with and let them turn it down and be prepared to walk away.

Good luck

GLK350 4Matic - Loaded
Many people here in Canada were able to negotiate $1 to $2K off MSRP. Also, I had a strip of 3M put on my hood and fenders and the entire from bumper done for $500.

So with that, the savings is really about $3K.

If you want it, go for it. You mentioned there were options this one has that you don't want and options you want that it doesn't have. Leverage this in your price negotiation. Also, they likely want the sale to happen before year end to meet targets... they may be more flexible than you think!

Good Luck!

Consider the build date as it may impact resale value.

When I test drove the GLK, it had less than 100kms and I remembered the sales person driving the heck out of it. Then I drove the heck out of it, and I am sure the next 50 test drivers also floored it like mad.....pedal to the metal. Stay away from Demos.

I was going to say "Model Year" but that wouldn't make any sense since only 2010s have shipped to date. So I don't know either.

Just a little conversion for anyone who is unaware of exchange rates between USD and CAD.
1 USD = 1.047 CAD

$51,375 CAD (price posted by SD90) = $49,071 USD

Interesting figures considering that a better figure has already been posted on MBW. Lets also not forget hold back, incentives, etc. And it is well known that stealerships will sign up for programs (advertising for one) from the OEM, tack them onto the invoice and claim a new invoice pricing.

A vehicle with that much on the clock has been placed into service and the clock on the warranty has been punched.

misinformation verboten

Not true in every state. Some states require that the warranty starts when sold to the 1st real owner, and not the dealership. If the dealsership punches the warranty before you buy it they will eat whatever it takes to make it thru the 4yrs 50k from the day and mileage you purchased at.
I have had this happen with 2 different VW Jettas and both times when confronted the dealership admitted they would have to honor the warranty from day sold and mileage. This may be different in the frozen north though.

From MBUSA

http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/data/p...on_booklet.pdf
Page 11
WARRANTY STARTS: The warranty period starts on the date the car is delivered to the first retail purchaser or put in service as a Mercedes-Benz Center demonstrator or Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) or Mer- cedes-Benz Service Corporation (MBSC) company car.

As noted, if the demo was put inservice 6 mos earlier and now has 5,000 miles on it, the retail customer is covered for 3 1/2 years and 45,000 miles.

Individual state law can override this, but that would not be common.

Even though the US and CDN dollar have evened out in recent years, the prices in Canada (for most things) are higher. Not sure why that is, but probably has something to do with the higher taxes. For a totally unrelated example:

Hi-efficiency furnace in Michigan is around $2000.
In Calgary (as of 11/09), it's around $5000. And keep in mind that there are GST and PST (taxes) amounting to (in most provinces) somewhere around 15-20+% on top. Alberta has no PST.

Even without those taxes, I think you should expect to pay a lot more than $2000 extra (in CDN money) for a similarly loaded vehicle of any kind, especially MB, in Canada. Make a lower offer on this.
