Is this a good price?

My local MB dealer has a USED 2010 GLK Base for sale. 8500 miles, 4matic. From what I can tell few or none of the Premium options. No Nav system or satellite radio, no moonroof, no leather seats, etc. I do believe it has keyless entry and heated seats. They are asking $32,900. What would be a reasonable price? From my best guess, MSRP for this new should have been about $37K.

Why are you buying a used base model?

Sounds like it could be a demo, but honestly for that price and for what you'd be getting (a stripped down car with nothing, just the car) you'd be better off getting a comparatively priced competitor that includes some options (like from Japanese rivals).

I wouldn't want to own a car with no options, bone stock.

The price could be lower imo if it really has no options.

Kamen is right. Get something with some toys. Otherwise you'll be bored in a week and everytime you see another GLK with options you don't have you'll be bumming out.

The car comes with many things that are options or not even avail on other cars.
Things like Muti zone Climate Control, Self Adjusting active suspension, 7 speed transmission, Rain Sense wipers, 19" wheels, Hill Start Assist, Brake Assist, Bluetooth, Remote Open/close all windows, EIGHT way power driver AND passenger seat, Burl Walnut trim (REAL burled Walnut, not plastic), and if it really has heated seats, that's a $740 option and if it really has Keyless, that's a $1130 option.
And in the end, I would much rather drive a MB than any of the japanese Cars I tested which included the Acura RDX,The Mazda CX7 and the Infiniti EX. The RDX and CX7 (And the VW Tiguan) all had 4 cylinders and Turbo lag,no matter what you hear or read).
I would want to know WHO Owned it and WHY they got rid of it.
I would want to see the maintenance records and the Carfax.
If it was a car the dealer bought at Auction I would not buy it.
If it was a demo, I would not buy it.
If the maint records show that it was in an accident, I would be very careful about buying it.

Just my .02 cents

The price frankly is not that bad for a car that carried a $39000 MSRP and is still very current. But you can probably get another 1000 off........

Red, you sure don't offer up much do you? Only 2 hundredths of a penny! Just kidding around, of course.

Anyways, I agree with you here! My initial question was more why by a used one? than why buy a base one?

Just to be clear are you saying that you would/might buy a car that had been in an accident but you would NOT buy a car that had been sold at auction or been a demo????

While I would certainly be much more careful if it was a demo/auction car and have it checked out accordingly I wouldn't worry about buying one of these cars if it checked out properly especially in-light of the fact that it is still covered by a bumper to bumper warranty for 4 years from the in-service date or 50K miles....whichever comes first.

You can NEVER get an accident off of the Carfax no matter how old the car is but the fact that it had been sold at auction or been a demo will be much MUCH less meaningful as time passes. These things will however affect the amount that you should be willing to pay at this point in time but IMHO should not preclude you from buying if the value is good for you.

I would be careful about buying a car that had been in an accident.
If it had a scratched fender, I would buy it.
If it had substantial damage I wouldn't.

Why do I have to explain this? SURELY you knew what the answer would be?

Fair enough I was more considering the contrast between the 2 instances where you said you wouldn't vs. the only one where you said you would buy................no need to be snippy......people actually get banned for that kind of thing around here.

Cheers!

The price seems reasonable, for a demo. But you can find a RWD base model for not much more. And if I were you, I'd rather get something brand new.

A car with those options NEW could be easily haggled to about $34000, even USAA's car buying service no haggle price is $34651 for base 4matic + heated seats. USAA also has a $1000 incentive on this car with MB lowering it to $33651. If you have USAA, login, search on car buying service, select the car/options. It will give you a printout with a no haggle price and a form where the dealership takes $1000 off immediately. (they get it as a rebate, so they dont mind at all).

Since this car is USED with 8k miles, I think you should try to get 31k or even 30k. Doesnt hurt to make an offer and walk if they say no. Then wait at least 3-5 days, they will likely call you back and tell you they will accept the offer.

I was thinking of offering about $30K, and/or also trying to get a nice deal on my trade-in. Thanks for the advice.

Depends on which market you are in, but it does not sound like an unreasonable asking price. If you have the VIN, I would be glad to tell you the exact price new, or you could just ask the dealer to give you the original MSRP sheet. The base 4-matics are $36,900, plus the $875 delivery fee, which puts it in the high $37k range, plus heated seats which are $740, so it was most likely close to $39,000 new. I would also ask them to throw in a low mile CPO warranty and offer $31k and see where it gets you. Good luck with your purchase.

yea definitely ask them to throw in CPO warranty. during the first negotiation they were gonna charge me for the warranty with a high $33,000 for my GLK. so I left the dealership n went to shop around. few days later I went back and re-negotiate. n who knew the sale person discounted the car to $31,900. Seems like a good deal at the time, I almost took the deal. but I didn't and I stood up and left again. few days later I went back again, the manager came out and discounted to $31,250 and a free CPO warranty. thats when I put my deposit. hope this help for people who wants to negotiate for either a used or new GLK.
