Uploading songs to HD
Is there a way to upload songs from my iPod touch or iPhone to the HD? The COMAND screen says there is 6 gigs available on the HD, but I can't figure out how to upload.
I've heard that iPods use a file format other than MP3, so most other devices don't recognize them, I can play any songs off the iPod with no problem, it would just be nice to not have to plug it in all the time.

Don't have the answer for your HD...but something that I have done......
I bought dedicated iPods for my two cars.
I paid $35K for the GLK and $45K for the Caddy......so whats another $179 each for 16GB of dedicated music? At least that's the way I looked at it.

Dont know about *any*, however I have used several different cheap PCMCIA to compactflash adapters and they both worked fine. They were both just freebie adapters that came with the memory cards ages ago before SD was even popular.
There is nothing "special" about the MB one except the price and logo stamped on it.

Anyone of you copying MP3 to an SD card using a Mac? GLK doesn't recognize the tracks, even though iTunes tells me they're formatted as MP3, GLK reads them as MP4.
Using a converter to try again..

No playable files
For Mac users, going back to 10.3.9 to copy the MP3 files onto the SD card solved the problem on the Mac. GLK can read them all now. For what it's worth.

do you plug this PCMCIA adaptor to the center console radio memory card slot? I'm a newbie at this sort of thing. Can anyone send me a link of what I should look for? thanks in advance

yep plug PCMCIA adapter in there and plug in the card in.
So I use SD card, so I searched for PCMCIA SD adapter on ebay, then put music on the SD card and plugged it into the adapter in the car.

PCMCIA -> CF TypeI/TypeII Adapter $9.99:
http://amtron.com/adapter/pcacf2.htm
8GB CF Type II Memory Card (single thickness) $59.99:
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Extrem...6438696&sr=1-2
Please note that some of the TypeII CF cards are minidrives that are actually thicker than your PCMCIA slot on the GLK. You will be unable to use those cards because they wont physically fit in the slot.

There have been a lot of reports that the GLK's system can only read so many songs/folders from the card, so going above 8GB can sometimes lead to you not being able to use the whole card.

Jus above your post are links for PCMCIA-> CF adapter and a CF memory card. If you prefer SD memory (slower than CF):

I tried putting crap load of folder and songs on 16 GIG SD card and had access to first few and last few folder, so I'm assuming I had access to all of them. Don't think there is a 255 folder limit somebody mentioned.

Not sure if SD is slower, it works really fast, even cheaper one. I didn't see any difference between 80 dollar one from my DSLR vs. 40 dollar one I bought to use in GLK.

As far as the folder/file size limit, I dont think there has been a consensus, some people have issues, others dont. It "seemed" like it was a count issue either of files, folder, nested folder depth, filename character length, or some combination of those factors. I think some people encode their MP3 at higher bitrates (ie: 192kbps+), so they are "bigger" and so they can fill up a 16GB card without seeing the issue. Other people encode at 128kbps which means they can fit a higher count of files on a 16GB and probably see the issue since it appears to be count related.
Someday I will bring my laptop into the car and write a script to generate a lot of different patterns of files (many files, many folder, nesting level, long filenames, etc) to see if I can figure out what the limit is.
