Might be getting a GLK

Hi everyone!

I currently drive an 07 2.0T Audi A3. I absolutely love my car (minus no AWD), but my lease is coming up soon and I don't keep my cars for longer than 3 / 4 years. I test drove the GLK a couple weeks ago and was quite satisfied with the power although steering is a bit odd. For someone who leases and don't buy back the car, Audi lease is absolutely ridiculous. Most of the cars are @ 50% residual after 3 years which makes monthly payment huge. The market price of the cars are a lot higher than their residual. I guess there is room to make profit there, but I don't like dealing w/ the hassle of selling a car privately unless I already have a known buyer. Originally I wanted to get the new S4 / Q5, but Audi might have lost another customer because of their stupid lease program. I decided to look at the C-Class, no offense to current owners, its horrible and I don't fit. I'm only 5'10" but there is only around 2" of headroom left on the lowest seating position, so the C-Class is out. I think I've settled on getting the GLK 350 4matic and I just have a few questions about the car.

I'm looking to get:
Still torn between White or Black Exterior, Black ARTICO interior, Premium Package and Bi-Xenons.

I noticed that the AMG styling package is already out in America, but dealers in Vancouver have no idea about them . How much would that cost?

I've heard of UMI, but not absolutely sure as to what it does. Is there any sort of standard iPod integration / aux input in the GLK?

Which dealer do you guys recommend in Vancouver, BC? Is this the best time to get a good deal on leases?

TIA

Completely agree with you, for the same reason we are "renting" the GLK instead of Audi.

Not sure about the AMG package, but iPod integration is great (my favourite feature in fact), I ordered COMAND navigation package hence added the Media interface which is great, it even supports Chinese and Japanese characters.

If you send me a private message, I can point you to my dealer as they gave me a good deal.

GLK 4Matic
EVTee, I loved our GLK but I have to tell you, the back seat is an issue. Also, older folks may have a hard time entering or exiting the rear. Audi styling sill scares me and I'm not liking the BMW SUVs. Rovers are completely out of the question.

NOTE:Anyone out there wanting a used 1 year old GLK 4matic with less than 7k miles on it, contact Hoy-Fox Lexus. The only thing we added were the all weather floor mats. It may still be there...

I'm 90% set on getting a GLK in about 2 months or so. Anyone has any experience w/ light snow on stock 20"s? Is there any way to avoid staining your pants while getting in / out the car because the side skirt is incredibly obtrusive or is it something that you guys eventually get used to?

edit: Still torn between white, silver, or black for the exterior. All of them look great w/ the standard Canadian 20" rims.

I had my dealer drive the GLK with 20"s last year in deep snow, it was fine. I'm talking about Christmas time in 2008.

I bought snow chains just in case (I run into road blocks to Whistler) as I'm too lazy to put on snows for the few mild winter days in BC.

I got used to the side skirt but I'm over 6 feet so can avoid staining my pants, marginally.

I like the 4matic much more than the front wheel based AWD systems out there. Not much rear room but far more than the A3. The iPod interface with COMAND and upgraded stereo is amazing, together with keyless go.

Not a fan of Lexus, did you guys watch the nasty video of that woman testifying her near death experience?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jM6hi5R0PNw

Not that the above would stop me, but I really dislike the red nasty wood in typical Lexus interior, much rather have my aluminum interior trim.

it's fine to get around in snow on 20's, but I would get winter set if you have to drive in snow too often, just for the sake of keeping rims in good shape.

As far as color, I'm biased as I have silver, I think it's great color. It hides dirt pretty well so you don't have to wash it as often and it looks great in different lighting (searcg for my pics). Also silver is metallic color which I believe is better quality than non metallic.

I do like black better when car is clean but it's virually impossible to have black car clean for more than a day. White is also nice (my old car was white), but you have to be fan of sex and the city movie to get white GLK .

GLK 350

My GLK s/b here in 2-3 weeks the most, I am getting Palladium because I thought the color was awesome and yes I heard "Mettalic" paints were a little better with more clear coat. Maybe you should look into getting the running boards, which will eliminate the panel on the bottom..This way you can just step on the boards, getting out of the car. Dan

This would make it much worse, cuz running boards stick out even further out, and make it impossible to get in/out without hitting you calfs unless you jump or step on the running board. But the running board is not that wide and car is low. They are really for cosmetic reason or very small people.

I agree w/ the running board issue. I tried one car that had the running boards on and I thought it made it worse. Fronts aren't affected as much but getting out from the back becomes more awkward.

No, but I would like to have kept it. The trigger was the way we were treated at service. As laid back as I am, I expect not to be walked on and treated they way we were. I traded it in that day. We were never treated that way at Lexus. I know the Lexus is funny looking but my wife likes it. Afterall, it is her ride. I'm still a GLK guy without a GLK. I will refer people to MB products, just not at my dealer.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the help and answering my questions. Unfortunately I didn't get a GLK. You guys have been great, this an amazing forum with great people.

I should be taking delivery of my jet black 335d by the end of this month. Its a fully loaded car with Navi, Sport, Premium, Executive, and Audiophile sound system. I have always liked modern diesels and after a test drive it pretty much made my decision.

Again thanks for all the help while I'm here.
