Sirius Renewals
I just received my renewal letter from Sirius (6 mos approaching) and was wondering what kind of deals some GLK owners settled on. Please advise!

They offered us a one time lifetime fee of $400.00.
But we declined... we dislike Sat. Music Radio.... and all those talking propagandists at the end of the dial.. Prefer our own playlists via iPod.

I took the lifetime plan which ended up costing about $475.00 after royalty fees, taxes etc. Just be aware that lifetime means the life of the that particular car radio. You can't move a subscription from one car to another. Also that does not include real time traffic which is a separate monthly charge. They did let me split my payments for 5 months which made it easier. My traffic subscription is up 5/1 so need to decide if I want to keep that, not sure.

I appreciate the comments because I'm not sure if I want lifetime and then trade the vehicle in 3-4 years for a hybrid or better model. I may go year by year and see what they offer. I've read that there's some concern about them surviving and even with picking up XM.

Now if I were Sirius/XM, I would design a NEW system by which each subscriber could put together their own multiple play lists from each of Sirius/XM's music library categories, say at home on a computer, which could later be accessed from your car, or from your AV receiver, etc. via satellite for a flat one-time fee or monthly charge.... then these play lists could be expanded or deleted at will.... that would blow away iTunes IMO!

I bought the Siruis Lifetime Subscription 5 years ago, it was $500+tax then. I've changed out radios before and thus had to change my tuner, I told them that my old received messed up and gave them the id for my new receiver and they transferred it over without charge, and i've done this multiple times before.
Back when I bought it they said it could be transferred 3 times for $75 (transfer fee each time).
I just ordered a GLK without P1 and did not decide to get Sirius on the vehcile because I didn't feel like I got that much use out of it. Sure it was nice to have back up stations when I couldn't find anythign else on, but it was usually a back up and not a primary source. I think $450 for Sirius in the car (for GLK) is way too much, I might add an aftermarket Sirius receiver that would plug into the OEM radio if they ever make one for it.

yea it'll just stop working and you'll get a call from them asking to subscribe.
The best deal i got so far is they are putting serius back on for the rest of the this month, and then i can get 5 (or 6?) month for 20 bux.

I found the SIRIUS billing department in total disarray. It seems detached from their marketing and contract update departments. It took months to combine my GLK and CLS contracts and I still continued to get a bill for $13 every month, even though SIRIUS said I owed nothing. I finally gave up and paid the $13. So don't expect everything to go smoothly, but I hope that you have a better experience than I.

FYI from November 4, 2010,

This morning's third-quarter report was solid. Adjusted revenue climbed 15% to $722.5 million, the result of a 7% increase in subscribers and the fact that the average account is paying more after a music royalty fee was implemented last summer.
Free cash flow more than doubled, and earnings of $0.01 a share were ahead of both the breakeven results it posted a year earlier -- after backing out debt-restructuring moves -- and the nil city that analysts had been expecting.

Didn't receive a call or letter asking to renew subscription. I don't drive often so it's not for me. A little off topic, but I hope they turn their business around. I loaded up on their stock the other day. A lot of potentials...

Alternately, I could always use a FM Transmitter and my Android phone to stream Pandora or Last.fm.

I paid for the lifetime service. It should also be known that you can transfer the lifetime service 4 times. If your radio gets replaced or you get a new car it can be added to that radio.

so does the sirius lifetime stay with the car, IF the prior owner doesn't transfer to new car? or does it end as soon as the owner sells the car?
