I've had my 22 in. wheels for about 9000 miles and they make a very loud noise when i'm around 20-30 mph. I went to the place i got them and mercedes and they said the tires were wearing so that the tires would make that noise. Mercedes said it happens because the wheels are not meant for the car so it's normal that they wear differently. My tires are Nexen and the wheels are 22x9. Does anyone else have this problem or does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

I am aware of that the title addressed the "22 in. group", excluding me as we have 17"s on our GLK, purposely (and very happy with that).

Your experience with the wheels is in accordance with what Mercedes-Benz decribes as "detrimental effects", in the 2010 "GLK Operators Manual", http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/#/servPrtsOwnersManuals/,
chapter rims and tires.

I don't agree with Mercedes-Benz statement: "Using tires other than those approved by Mercedes-Benz may result in damage", neither did our dealer do so during a discussion on the subject tires.

However is damage caused by non-approved tires (and rims as I read the
highlighted hazard)
not covered by the Mercedes-Benz Limited Warranty, and "can have detrimental effects, such as:

- poor handling characteristics
- increased noise".

I believe your problem is the tires you have now. I have falken tires and they are actually quieter than the original dunlops on the OEM 19 inch wheels. I now have 22x8 inch wheels with Falken Ziex S/TZ04 265/35R22

low profile tires are nosier and wear off much quicker

also i would keep in mind that heavier 22 inch rims put more strain on the suspension and if not aligned and balanced properly can def. damage suspension. Lastly less sidewall on 22's means suspension has to take harder beating since there is less rubber to absorb bumps.

It will create more noise than OEM set up because the wheels are bigger and the tires are low profile.

For me, changing to 22" wheels are purely for look. I wouldn't change my set up if I want performance.

putting 22'' on GLK is nuts. u should expect it before deciding the size. check the latest Car & Driver. on page 34 the article ''Plus-Size Models.'' might change ur mind after reading.

personally i think 20'' looks the best with the right ''balance'' look. imo, 22'' is too big for the compact SUV such as GLK. visually they make the car look like a Hotwheel diecast. the DUB-look, kinda kills it.just my 2 cents.
