Does anyone can explain how the tire pressure monitoring system work on Canadian model?

Thanks.

I could be totally wrong but I believe it monitors wheel speed not pressure in the tire, so if your tire is low it will spin at a different speed than the rest. Also it will reset to whatever pressure the wheel is at, so if you get a pressure message inflate before resetting.

Given it is like ours, which I think is correct, is it another cheap MB solution, working on the principle "of rotational speed of the wheels", just like tyglk350 states. And the system is totally useless for most practical purposes, on contrary to the "Advanced Tire Pressure Monitoring System (Advanced TPMS)", which is on the USA deliveries. Believe me - I have tested it the hard way, last winter

The principle of operation is given:
http://www4.mercedes-benz.com/manual...html#d10e43314
and note carefully the exceptions given, where it has no - or limited credibility.

um interesting, on our Acura's it gives the actual reading of pressure per tire. I was trying to toggle through the menu of the GLK to find it but nada...nice

How much pressure lose will affect the tire rotation speed?
I can't picture 5-10 psi lost will change the wheel rotation speed???????

I don't have the exact figure, but would by experience say something between 1,05 Bar (14,9 psi) and a flat tire, the latter will not give a warning in the case "of a sudden loss of pressure".

And as you do see in the reference to the principles give before, is there a range og circumstanses where: "The function of the tyre pressure loss warning system is limited or delayed if".

I don't think so, how would it know that tire is off before you start driving? That's the only time a got a warning. I got in the car, one tire was in a puddle and caused temp to be lower and pressure fall enough to cause a warning. Other than that I haven't had any warnings, all year, not even sure if that system works anymore hahaha

Neither does the "(Canada and other nations) Tire pressure loss warning system" nor the "Advanced Tire Pressure Monitoring System (Advanced TPMS), (USA only)" reset themselves.

Restarting is the process required to make the tire pressure loss warning system operational, with regard to the actual tire inflation pressure. Restart is needed in situations like:
- after change of the tire inflation
- after replacement of wheels or tires
- after new wheels or tires are installed

Warnings are given in the manual, that "The tire pressure loss warning system does not provide a warning for wrongly selected tire".

With regard to the TPMS system is the manual having warnings: "malfunctions may occur for a variety of reasons, including the installation of incompatible replacement or alternate tires or wheels on the vehicle that prevent the TPMS from functioning properly. Always check the TPMS malfunction telltale after replacing one or more tires or wheels on your vehicle to ensure that the replacement or alternate tires and wheels allow the TPMS to continue to function properly".

So may be it's just about time to "do a restart"
