Wind noise above 60mph
Has anyone experience a slight hissing noise when you drive over 60mph? i just got a 2011 GLK and there is a slight hissing noise like the wind is hitting a certain part of the windshield or it might be the wind going around the side mirrors since they are smaller. i've driven the 2010 GLK as a loaner from MB and never heard this.
i have to take the GLK back next week because when it was delivered, there was already 3 small chips in the paint above the rear right fender. i'm also making MB clean the interior of the car because they didn't do that either. fingerprints all over the car.
other than that, good small SUV.

damn..... any thoughts???
question - are the 2010 GLK side mirrors the same ones as the 2011?
there was some wind noise when the C63 went from the larger side mirrors to the smaller ones so wondering if that might be the issue.
SOOOO - I did some searching on the internet, some people have complained that there is wind noise from the roof area at high speeds, meaning the sunroof... going to have dealer keep the car until they find the problem and resolve it.

So got a report from the dealer.... apparently the wind noise is coming from the seal at the top of the front windshield. They believe the front windshield may not have been properly seated from the factory so the seal around it was making the noise. Go figure....

Sometimes easier said than done. If seal is still fresh the windshield should comer out with relative ease. Otherwise the windshield breaks with uneven pressure to remove. Had the wind noise after I had it replaced on my wife's Lexus by Safelite. They came back several days later removed the windshield put in new sealant and everything was OK. Remember if the windshield is replaced you must keep a window open a small amount so as not to create pressure on the windshield when closing the rear hatch or car doors. Hmmm.......that may have been the problem with your car from the get go. Slammed door before windshield was "Set", or poor QC at the factory.
In any case make them reseal or replace the windshield.

May be this is not the same windshield that came from the assembly line. Your windshield probably damage on transit and was replaced by the dealer without you knowing it. It just a guess.

I am glad you have a likely solution, and hope the fix resolves it.
The 2010 mirrors are large as you pointed out, as well as flat and square, and have some trim that might catch the wind a bit.
My car is also whisper quiet, so those don't seem to hurt things :-)

NOISE CAME BACK!!! Going to have my tech ride with me tomorrow so he can hear it. All I did was detail the car this weekend so unusual that the noise went away and then came back.

Noise is still there.... now service thinks it might be something to do with the air conditioning box that is underneath the hood since that is sorta close to the windshield. i have no idea but the car has been at the dealer more than at my house. likewise, the dealership has put more miles on the car then i have.... picked it up at 36 and now it has like 500 miles.

Is the hissing noise constantly there? Or is it happening from time to time.
I heard a hissing noise today when driving at around 50-60mph. Though there was a lot of wind today, it reminded me of your issue.

I am having same problem. I took it to service last month. Service manager said that it is normal and nothing needed to fix even though tech guy, who rode with me to hear whining noise, said it is A PROBLEM. Right before I left the dealer and after I signed the service agreement form, service manager told me that he reported to MBUSA and will let me know how to fix this issue in one or two weeks. I still haven't heard from him yet nor returned my 3 voice messages.
Any way, does anyone have this whining/whistling noise issue? My GLK has only 2k miles. Noise started since day one and getting louder. Should I call MBUSA or go to different service for 2nd opinion?

hissing noise or wind whining noise only occurs over 50mph, sounds like comes from the top of the windshield or right passenger a-pillar. service was able to get rid of the noise by hitting the recirculation button for the A/C yesterday but when they drove the car today and hit the recirculation button, the noise remained. I think it has something to do with an incorrect seal or something like that in the windshield or panoramic sunroof.
my service has looked through the MBUSA database and reported the issue already. They think it has something to with the A/C box or heater box underneath the hood. I disagree and told them to look at some seals. Next step would be calling in the NorthEast Service specialist. My car made the noise right after I detailed the car over the weekend as I picked it up on a Saturday.
I would go to a different service as it appears your service manager doesn't care. Mine is definitely helping me but then again, they better since I service 4 MBs there right now and purchased more from there. the dealership definitely doesn't want to lose me as a customer.

Found this from a post in January 2010 about this complaint...
Air dampers are internal air duct *rudders* in a way... they direct air to different parts of the car via small air pipes (ducts) throughout the dash.... The air enters the external vents at the base of the windshield, and these dampers are electronically controlled to redirect the air (after it has been conditioned by cold or hot) to the places you wish. If one or more of these duct dampers sticks open a little... it can cause a whistle as you drive, as air is forced through the gap...

I have had this same problem and my car is 5 days old. I have a 2011 and didn't notice it until the 2nd day or so, probably because I had the radio on and you can't hear it when the radio masks the sound. It occurs when I go above 40 mph. It sounds like it is coming from the right side but I can't tell. I'm going to make an appt tomorrow and see what they say. It's so new that it aggravates me that something is wrong already...

Did that already and also saw your comments regarding this issue from January 2010 since I posted it word for word in my thread, maybe you missed that... Your comments and all the other answers were not the case since I passed all those to the service department and they still can't figure out the problem. Contact MBUSA and they are sending the NorthEast tech to the dealership to help resolve the problem.
