Hey everyone....
I have reviewed the multiple discussions here regarding "usefulness" or rather "un- usefulness" of the OEM running boards.
I think the list price for them at $575. is a joke too. But regardless of thier functionality and price, I do like the look of them and the will help prevent door dings in my parking garage.
My local dealer has offered a 35% off coupon for ANY accessories. This makes them $375.
Would you guys go for them at $375?

I would go with the mentality that if the dealer has a car with all the options you wanted AND it so happened that it came with the running boards as well, then by all means I would go for it too.
However, if adding the running boards meant another 3 month wait, I don't think they are worth the trouble even though they look pretty (it does make it a little more awkward getting out of the car).

I wouldn't want them for free. They wont help much agains dings. I would use 35% off for lots of other accesories that are much nicer or more usefull.

Has anyone seen aftermarket running boards that might actually work?
I like the idea of something to make it easier to get into the car.
You'd think there would be something out there; there must be 50 companies that offer these things for Fords and such.

No offense but, unless you are very, very short how can the running boards assist you in getting in or out of the vehicle???
Am I missing something?????

I'm 6' 2" but I was thinking of the MILF, who's 5' 3-3/4" (she's very specific about that 3/4"...).
No offense taken; a running board acts as a step between the ground and the floor of the car.
Ever used one?

My buddy has them on his GLK, I don't on mine, and although they don't seem very useful and getting in and out you have to step out over them to prevent getting your pant legs dirty, I still think the OEM running boards look very sharp. For $375 that's a real deal. In my humble opinion.

Hmmmm.....MILF? Even at 5' 3 and 3/4" she isn't that short!!!! And, Frank is right they just get in the way. The car isn't that far off the ground to warrant them unless looks are what you want.

I have them on my GLK...they're really only there for looks...haven't really used them to step in or out of the car. The car isn't tall enough for them to be used.
I went ahead and picked these up Friday night. For $375 I figured why not.
I installed them on Saturday. It took me a few hours.
I think they look great. They do protrude a bit when looking down from the drivers seat. But I found I don't really hit them much getting in and out. But I have always found the GLK to be a little different than many other cars in regards to "entry" and "exit". I must be used to getting in and out while trying to avoid scuffing the original rocker factory piece.
These are precisely engineered to fit the GLK. I am impressed with the fine attention to details where fitment is concerned. When everything is lined up and then snapped together these fit perfectly in every regard. The factory was proactive and pre-installed 10 total studs per side when the GLK was built. These studs are protruding from the bottom of the car beneath the standard rocker covers mouting piece. When you remove the covers and the original mounting piece you will see that the original setup only use 5 of the 10 studs. After you replace the mounting piece with the new one provided, you then use all 10 studs per side. I find this makes them very strong. It is obvious to me that the factory design team had these rockers in mind when they built the GLK.

I think that running boards on the GLK would mainly help as a step for accessing a roof box or rack. Probably only needed for shorter folks.Originally Posted by MKenM

That's a very good point, I stand on the wheel when washing roof of the car and I'm 6ft.Originally Posted by KenNinBC

Yeah, MILF is my term of endearment.
The truth is we don't even have kids, but she's over 50 and still really cute, so MILF just seems to work.
No, she isn't that short and the truth is she hasn't complained about getting into the GLK. In fact, she takes it almost every damn day even though it's really my car!

Oh well, as long as she's happy...
After a year+ of ownership I would definately get the running boards. My wife drives it, and she loves her GLK, but she doesn't care wether or not the stock cover get scratched up, niether do the kids that get in or out of the back. That is just tourture for me, the boards would fix that.
