he is right stock tire is 235/50-19 50 and 55 indicates hight of the sidewall in % of the width.

So 55 -50 is 5% higher sidewall.
5% is applied to width of 235 = 11.5mm so your radius is increased by 11.5mm, times 2 (diameter =2 times radius) = 23mm
So your overall tire would be 23mm taller or roughly and inch (1inch = 25.2mm) than OEM.

It's prolly ok size wise. I actually had tire shop screw up on my old car and put one tire 55 and others 60. Drove entire winter and noted only when changing to my summer set.

Cosider getting 17inch rims with winter tires, price wise might be the same (19's are more expensive than 17). It's much easier to swap wheels than tires. If you swap tires every season, you have to rebalances the wheels (so it'll cost you 50 bux or so each time you swap tires) Plus it's not good for tires to be streached during change over, and you always risk them scratching your rims. Set of wheels you can switch yourself in 20 min.

Oh yea and SEARCH, tires and rims have been discussed so many times. Topis is also universal to any car not just GLK.

Snow Tires

I run a 235/55/18 Pirelli Scorpion snow tire combo, winter only obviously. Almost a perfect match to OEM re hight. Bought the combo from Tire Rack.

Cheers

Ran my OEM Pirelli Scorpions last winter 2009-2010 (first winter with my 2010 GLK350 with 20" rims. A friend suggested I replace these all-season performance tires with snow tires on their own rims. Anyone suggest a specific snow tire/rim combination for this winter?

Go with the 17" rims package from Tire Rack.
