New GLK owner - very impressed
Hi guys - long time since I've been on the forum. I just picked up a new GLK tonight and I'm very impressed with the ride this evening. I expected it to ride much harsher then it does.
I wasn't really in the market for it, but my salesman called me up and said if I'm going to buy a car/truck anytime soon, come tonight. Long story short, at 11pm I rolled off the lot with the truck.
White on Black, 4Matic, Aluminum Trim, Pano Roof, iPod, Navi, Heated Seats.
One stupid question, before I read the manual - how the heck do you turn on Sirius radio?!?
Thanks,
Erik

Congratulations.
I had a GLK for about a 7 day rental. It's a nice car. I can't believe a SUV handles the way it does. The ride is extremely good as you point out too.
For Sirius, keep pushing "radio," button until it cycles through AM/FM/Weather/ to Sirius.
It may not be activated yet. If not, it will be like on the weather channel 184 or something. Just call Sirius to set it up and you should have 6 months free Sirius. You will need to find the Sirius radio code from the menu too.

We have had out GLK for a year now, and still love it! I noticed the ride got much better after installing the 17" winter tires, and I imagine when I go back to the 20's in the spring, it will seem much more harsh. But the handling is great for a small SUV! (That's where the 20's really shine!)

I'll double check today and call the dealer. Looking outside this morning, it looks like I have the rear spoiler option as well...I need to look at the window sticker.
Thanks,
Erik

You either have to have P1 package which included Sirius or Command with sirius as a separate option. I don't see either P1 or Command listed in your list so you probably don't have sirius.

Thank you.
I looked through the information and all signs point to sirius...I don't have the window sticker so I'm not sure. I called the dealer but they haven't gotten back yet - maybe I'll swing by tomorrow.
Thanks again,
Erik

If the car has Sirius there will be a demo channel available. If there is no demo channel available then you don't have the Sirius tuner. Again if you do have Sirius there is a place in the radios menu under Audio that will show Sat Radio and there is a sub menu in the Sat Radio section that gives you the serial number of the unit and Sirius's phone number. You need to call them give them the serial number and they will turn the radio receiver on. Best to do the call while you are in the car because reception is almost instant and you should get 6 months free with the car. This all assumes that is a brand new vehicle that has never been registered before.

Yup - confirmed, it was a mistake - mine does not have Sirius. Apparently the other one I was looking at did and by mistake I was given the Sirius information. Not the end of the world as I have it on my coupe and van and really never use it.
Has anyone done this to their GLK?

My dealer offered to put it in for me - ties into the OEM key.
Thanks,
Erik

^^^Haven't seen anybody on this forum install the remote starter. Might wanna check C class forum. How much does this one go for? There was another remote started that ran for almost a grand, I'm guessing this one is 500-700.

My salesman quoted me $1500 installed - then the service advisor called me and said it's $1,200 installed and I can use the $100 coupon online to make it $1,100 installed. Just spoke to the remote start company - the BlackBerry module is another $200 if I want it - so for me it should be $1,300 installed.

what a rip off. '05 Chevy came with this remote starter standard from the factory.
Why would you want start car from your Blackberry?

The problem with having it on the OEM remote is the lack of range it offers. It makes it sort of useless (except in the driveway in the morning). The blackberry will allow me to remote start it miles away and give me time to get to my car and it will be nice and warm.
Years ago I had a remote start in my truck - I was able to start it in class and by the time I made it down stairs - cross the street to the parking garage, my car was warm and ready to go. The remote had 1/4 mile range!

Hmm that's a good point about the range. That's one the reasons I would not get remote starter. I live in a building and the car is in the garage several floors bellow. While there is cell signal there, remote obviously would not work from my apartment. But this changes the deal. Still not worth 1300 to me personally, but pretty cool. Keep us posted once you get it.

I'll let you know on Wednesday how it turned out.

haha I'd consider it if I did daily commute in winter. I think this is money better spent than getting keyless option which is about 1k too.

Which MB dealership will be doing the install? I'm looking for the same unit.

MB of Freehold, NJ. The price changed a bit as we were talking of two different modules. I think it's going to be $1,300 + tax - I'll update on Wednesday after the Tuesday install with all the details. The part arrived today for my BB so it should be good to go.

I have to admit, it was confusing at first. I kept constantly setting off the alarm while trying to time it for 2 seconds. Needless to say, I attracted alot of attention :P. When you have it installed, be sure to ask your dealer a proper walkthrough of all the buttons. Like how to activate the alarm, stop the engine etc. I had to figure out myself..
Cheers

I just picked it up - had to figure it out myself too.
They were about to close and I wanted it back tonight because of the snow storm we are supposed to get late tonight. Told them just to get it back to me, forget the wash, etc.
I figured it out - hold the panic for a few seconds and she starts. When you get in, turn the key all the way like you are starting it and hit the brake. One odd thing is I think, not sure, you can remote start with the doors unlocked. Most remote starts I've had lock the doors before starting. I'll have to play around a little more with it.
The best part is the software!
I'm in awe. Downloaded the BlackBerry app from the appworld. It allows you to remote start and then lets you know when it's running. I'll put it on my iPad tonight and see if it's a better app with a touchscreen.
Very, very cool.

It was a $300-400 upgrade to the standard remote start.
