Changing door knobs & Resistor for LED bulbs

Has anyone tried to swap ugly door knobs with aluminum ones?
Some people say front door knobs are really hard to screw out but easy on rear doors.
I don't want to ruin original ones unless I know how to pull them out.

And one more question is I tried to change my break light to LED but then I got an error message so I guess I have to use a resistor. Could you please share your success story on this?

Thanks for reading

Oh, got it.

Are those hard to remove? I would think they all just screw on and off.

I thought so too so I tried one day but the plastic of the knob is too soft(?), it's got twisted way more than I expected so I stopped it.
I wasn't sure it would work or not that way.
If the plastic is hard enough, it would be easier to twist.

They might have used something like "Locktite" to secure them.

MB makes great, luxurious cars but why on earth they put the cheap, ugly door pins? To save cost? or expecting to be changed? Even a $10,000 car has better door pins than GLK.

Doesn't matter the color or how they look they will always be plastic and never high on the list for aesthetics. I find them quite annoying, I like to drive with my arm on the sill from time to time and the are always in the way.

If you think about it, they are pretty anachronistic. All GLKs come with power locks so nobody actually uses the "knobs" anymore; why continue to put them there?

I think it's the US law that every car should have door lock pin for emergency.
Also I have noticed that in Europe, the knobs could be lowered as level as door sill but in the US, pins are always above the sill's level. Maybe it's a regulation.
Anyway, I want to CHANGE IT.

Just make it so the inside latch unlocks as well as opens the door; many cars do this already.

true, corvettes do require you to go the trunk and pull the release latch from there when you lock yourself in (something along those lines), saw it somewhere

but yeah gaining access when battery is flat to get the hood popped, another situation you cant do without the key lol

MBRedux, I want names too! When I have a chance to go to Germany (maybe next year), I will ask him(or her). WHY~why~why~. Brabus models have aluminum door locks means I could change them too. Right/

BTW, does 2011 model has a different type or shape of side mirrors than 2010 model?

2011 should have the same side mirrors as 2010
2010s MYs in the line up were the first ones to have the swooping lights i believe

My wifes Lexus does not have door pins there is a latch right above the door handle which is quite nice, convenient and out of the way. Never have to use is either. Just like most, the doors lock and unlock automatically.

No it's not a "regulation" that the manual release be where it is on our GLK. In fact, that location is a throw back to prehistoric MB days! Right where your elbow likes to rest on the door sill with the window open...

The door lock pins are indeed very annoying on the resting arm....and are aesthetically very unpleasing. They should have gone the way of the q5 and made it an electronic switch. Seriously it's 2011!!!

And what about that god awful horn sound for when you lock and unlock the car? I feel such envy when I see someone in a beat up Toyota lock their cars and get a nice "beep beep". It's my understanding that the 2010 glk models have the nice chirp?? Why punish the 2011 owners is beyond me!

My guess is that the sounder that makes the chirp, BTW the 2010's do make the chirp, cost extra and the horn I'm sure they thought would be OK with newbies because they wouldn't know any different AND they could charge more.
