How Often do YOU change your oil?
I am thinking about purchasing a GLK 350, but I have seen numerous people say one thing, Mercedes says one thing (I can't see 10k miles)... yada yada
Anyways here is a poll, please vote. I think it will help the forum out to show members what most of the community does!
BTW, this is my FIRST post

Welcome! But I see you haven't read the sticky "Message to All Noobies".. This has been posted and hashed over way too many times here on MBWorld... a simple search of the GLK forum would have answered your question. Here's another sticky on the topic which sits at the very top of the GLK Forum...https://mbworld.org/forums/glk-class...ice-sheet.html
You'll find the answer there and elsewhere I'm sure.

I did a search for oil change, oil type, oil interval... and read about every post and everyone said something different in every one of the threads I read... You say 1000miles for the first oil change and then 2000miles ect... and then every 5000 miles, but Mercedes says 10k miles. I was trying to get a census of the forum...
Thanks!
Thanks!

IMO - it depends on how much you drive.
There is no perfect formula.
Some go by the dashboard lights, other go by their own instincts or experience.
For normal day to day driving with 50/50 stop/go/city/hwy - anything between 5k-7. 5k is my interval.
Most guys on BITOG will say do an oil analysis to gauge if you can even go further than that.
But if you really aren't going to keep the car forever, there is really no OCD on that level.
That being said - I have yet to see an engine blow up or under perform using Merc's idiot lights.

This is my first MB. Still brand new, so haven't changed yet.
But will follow the same schedule as my BMW over the years. BMW has free maint, including oil changes for first 4 yrs. However, the dashboard lights lasts 13 - 14,000 miles, before the dealer will change them. But I still buy Mobile 1 synthetic oil, filter, & have my local mechanic change the oil every 4 - 5000 miles. Total costs: around $52. Cheap insurance. So 2 changes in between changes at the dealer. 11 years later, engine still drives like new.
But since MB doesn't have free maint. I'll do the same schedule w/ this MB. Much cheaper at local shop than $144 MB dealer charges. May have dealer do it every few yrs, just to check things out.

MB used to have free maintenance up until the last couple of years. I've always done 10k mile intervals on my ML. I don't know if Mercedes still calls for Mobil1 0W-40 as the OE, but it has been shown over and over again with UOAs to be more than adequate enough to last at least 10k miles. And I've seen UOAs of this oil on different vehicle brands too that do just as well.

GLK 350, 98 BMW 328is, M3
Our BMW also gets free maint. But once a year oil change and all other misc item, blades, air filter, brake flush. It is not much, but def. not for 300 oil change like MB.
