Hey guys, newb here on the forum. I just pick up my new GLK several days ago, the Mrs. loved it, very Hi-Tech gadgets.

I ordered the Concertina Sill Protector for the rear. Very nice indeed, but WOW, it is made in China!!!, despite being OEM from MB, talk about cut corner and save a penny. Make sure you boys read where everything is made when order parts from the MB Dealers.

Where's the issue here? You do know that many owners here on the GLK forum are in China, or maybe you do not.... that every industrial car maker is in China, especially Mercedes, and as such have contracted with dozens of Chinese manufacturers to produce parts & accessories, to OEM specifications and quality. As a matter of fact, they have made extreme progress towards producing exquisite cars, faster and better than any other country ever has, including Japan & Korea.

If they can make this,

The Geely GT

... I'm sure they can make your sill protector.

PS As an added note, American auto makers better watch out because once these cars come into this market, (which they will), we better be ready to compete head to head. They appear to be tooling up at a much faster pace than Toyota, Honda or Hyundai ever did. Next time GM may not get the bail-out.

Was there a country of origin and local content card on your GLK?
If it will make you feel better, buy the rear cargo liner. Made in Germany.

Yes, it's made in Austria or Germany,,I can't recall. I got the rear all weather Cargo liner. They installed it for me, so I did not saw the origin.

MBRedux- I'm from the Mother Land, so I know they cut alot of corner and careless ways to make a quick bucks.

Seems to me that the accodian bumper protector is the perfect type of non-essentail do-dad to buy from China.

Okay then, it makes no difference, it's not a matter of "cutting corners". It's all about supply and demand, inventory demand from one supplier or another etc... it's a global market where every manufacturer at times needs to tap other warehouses to get parts and accessories to their worldwide customers. They are ALL manufactured to the same OEM standards.

Besides I have owned German built Merc's, Porsches, VW,s and Audi's, not to mention Japan built Lexus and Infiniti models too that have literally fallen apart two weeks after buying them. Yup, everything from buckling roofs caused by faulty sunroof systems, to door windows falling out of their tracks and into the lower door panels, to DSG transmissions disengaging while entering the freeway as huge 18 wheelers take evasive maneuvers to save my life.... Made in Germany, Japan, USA, Korea etc no longer guarantees quality.... OEM quality for parts and accessories are pretty much standardized in a GLOBAL international market. I'll even trust Chinese auto assembly over my own country, which is sad to say I know, but I believe it's true. It's not the country, it's that one person, at that one plant, who may be having a bad day... that's the person to worry about.... not where the OEM quality parts are made.

The M-B version looks as good. Maybe better with the Star in the center. The M-B version covers the entire area. Same price at my dealer & no shipping.

Yes, we have the OEM cover as well. Fits better, covers all corners especially the rear right side, it's more solid black in color where the other is a little milky in tone, and the material used in the OEM is a thicker mill ... We actually got ours thrown in for free at the time of the sale.... either way it's the same price as the weathertech version.

Wait until the RC either nationalize the plant or copy all the designs and patents.

No IP treaty with RC so if they build it they appropriate it.

Sorry, one Worlders, your vision would work if everyone played by the same rules.

Glad you pointed out the level playing field they use over there...
