My neighbor just got a new X3...
And I still prefer our GLK!
She also drove the Q5 and was not impressed.
I continue to be happy with the GLK and our dealer (Simonson in Santa Monica) has been awesome.
That's all!

Your neighbor has good taste.
The X3 - in 3.5 flavor - is a very nice piece of kit.
We were looking @ it but the big issue is that pricing doesn't match reality.
A fully decked out 3.5 can rise near mid 50's & a 2.8 is nearing 50.
The bang to buck ratio goes down when it gets that high.
BMW failed to realize that the luxury CUV segment is still an entry point for buyers looking to get into the luxury market & thus $ still factor in the equation.
Of course, if you have $ to spare then all rationale reasoning goes out the window.

The redesigned F25 X3 came out mid year 2010 & sold a modest 6K units.
In 2011 it sold 27k units in the US - not as much as it's best year (intro of the first X3) of '04 at 34K units.
In this part of the country - I rarely see the current X3. I actually see more Audi Q5's roaming around & of course I notice the GLK more now that I am part of the fraternity.
So I do get excited when I see the not so common current X3.
That said, GLK's lagging sales vs the X3 by some 6-8K units are one of the reasons of its exclusivity. Needless to say it's more of an acquire taste than the X3.

In overall, X3 is better than GLK
I will have to say that the X3 35i blows GLK off in many ways. However I still plan to order 2013 GLK for my wife for 3 main reasons.
1. GLK is smaller and fits my garage better. My wife demands a luxury SUV as small as possible.
2. The refreshed 2013MY is catching up with X3 with the new engine. I don't expect the handling will be as good as X3. But my wife doesn't care about handling much anyway.
3. I like the look of GLK better than X3.

Good points!
Forgot to mention that she got the 2.8... didn't want to pony up the extra six large for the 3.5!
The GLK is looking better all the time...
