Best color for GLK?

I know its HIGHLY subjective, but I wonder what your opinion is on the best color for the GLK 2013 model is? With the AMG chrome, I have been strongly leaning to White. But I saw Obsidian black today and I started to waver badly towards it!! Thanks.

Yikes, I'm afraid what this thread will bring.

Let's try to not criticize the OP for asking a seemingly impossible question.

I preferred silver after owning a black ML500, white C300, and silver E350 coupe.

Not only does the paint look as good as day one even after driving through the rain, but it shows "swirls" less over time which is one reason I will never choose a black car again. The paint simply looks like crap after a while or if it is not clean. Yes, some people may have the skill to restore or keep swirls out of black paint, but for the average end user who goes through an automated car wash once every two-three weeks....

Bash away lol. I realize this is a question that sometimes brings out the worse.

The reason I ask is that it seems most cars, because of their lines and contrasting grilles etc, have a color or two that really work best.

For me, I have been all over white because I think it shows off the lines of the GLK, and softens all the AMG chrome. But black looked awful good today.

But I agree, i am trying to avoid black since it is a full time job. Dealer liked palladium silver but not so much for me. The pictures on the Canadian site look really good, although I am not certain which silver that is.

When I saw white today I thought it made the GLK not look as "rich". So now I am lost for what color to order. Nice problem to have though...

That is why white looked very good on the C class. The contrast between white paint, the bumper mesh/diffuser and panoramic roof was absolutely stunning to me in 2008.

The GLK wasn't so much about aesthetics. Silver is easy to keep clean, the car is more comfortable than my C, the extra headroom from not having a sunroof helps my back, and I don't have to put my dog in the back seat any more.

I think the color does look good though. It almost glows. The palladium silver is sort of dull. Kind of like wet cement.

Ours is black. But I also like white and paladium (or whatever it's called, dark gray/silver).

It's one of those rare cases when a car looks good in any color. I can't think of any other vehicle I can say the same thing about.

From a different point, mine is red. It is really a red red. I think with the big wheels, square exhausts, etc. it is a bit sportier looking than many similar body styles. I've gotten several compliments on it.

I only briefly struggled between Iridium Silver (the color I have on my E350,) and Diamond Silver, which is what I'm ordering. Had a W126 once in a blue that looked silver most of the time and I loved it. The Diamond Silver is my choice.

That reminds me of my '65 Pontiac GTO. It was Blue Charcoal and varied from very blue under flourescent lights to nearly black. Beautiful color.

How many colors are offered? That is the number of best colors for the GLK. Somebody somewhere will like each one. Even the colors that I find UGLY. Go figure.
The real crime? The colors that we can't have on the GLK. Grrrrrrrrrrrr..............

Our Palladium silver doesn't look like wet cement.

Black goes very well with the AMG package, but I must admit it might be hard to keep clean at times, with that said I LOVE MY GLK + THE COLOR.

A unique and beautiful color is the Cuprite Brown metallic. It's a very dark maroon/ brown that really shines when it's in the sun. You pick up so much depth in the paint. When it's dark it's closer to black.

If you want to have a unique color and stand out from the crowd this is the way to go when GLKs are typically a sea of grays and blacks. I've only seen one GLK in this color and it was magnificent.

Agreed. I really liked the Cuprite Brown, but they didn't have it in the options I wanted.

I almost wish the Designo color options would be avail, but it seems the GLK is not part of the program. Too bad.

My top choices were:
Diamond white
Polar white
Steel grey
Obsidian black
Black

I left out silvers because in my personal opinion it is too practical. It looks okay clean or dirty. But after a wash, I want "pop".

There are pros and cons of each color. The best color depends on your maintenance habits and where you live.

Diamond white: translucent and changes colors under different reflections. Great contrast on the black mesh grill. Great if u live in a sunny environment. Nice pop after a wash. Okay even when dirty. But repainting is harder. Triple coat and the metallic finish is harder to duplicate. A crappy repair shop could ruin the paint.

Polar white: same advantages as diamond white sans the translucent properties of diamond white. And also easier to repaint.

Grey: easier than black to keep clean. Less swirl marks. But not as elegant as white or black.

Obsidian black: beautiful metallic black. Hot and elegant. But if u don't wash cars often or can't avoid swirls. It will look like crap soon.

Black: rank just under obsidian. I like the metallic properties more. Over time wo proper waxing, it will look like crap. But if we'll cared for, it's stunning. Black cars will absorb more heat.

I had a clk500 in black. It was beautiful. But it was he'll keeping clean. And I didn't trust anyone to washing it. I hate swirls. I currently have a clk55 in silver. It looks the same clean or dirty. So I just keep dirty. I once put 5 coats of wax on the 55. Looked the same before and after. W the 500, every coat was a trip to mirrored perfection.

I ended up getting a glk (w amg appearance pkg) in polar white for my wife. I'm ordered a gl in Damond white.

Disclaimer: I'm color blind and wife is laughing at me while I post this reply :-p

So with the whites, do you prefer the Diamond White or Polar White? In Canada, Polar White is no charge, Diamond White is $1600. Wondering if you think its worth $1600 upcharge over the basic white.

I think the diamond white looks more elegant than the (flat) polar white.

the $1,515 up charge is a matter of opinion. If you plan to keep it for a long time, yes. I would have preferred dw in my wife's glk, but they only had pw in inventory at my preferred dealer and I didn't want to wait or search further for a dw. I regret my laziness.

I choose for upkeep/maintenance and repair reasons...so white it is for all my cars. A solid color is WAY easier to paint match if required, although the paint stores are getting good at matching metallic and pearl paints these days. How many mis-matched panels do you see running around out there? Usually a benzo gets a better effort than other cheapo cars. I repainted a hood and top on a old green pearl toyota for my kid and the paint matched perfectly. Go figure.

White is also a good color for warmer regions, it's kind of a no-brainer in southern CA.

We just picked up a C250 coupe for the wife. I wanted her to get a dark navy blue metallic with the tan interior, but she also went for white. It looks great, and unbeknownst to the dealer when they ordered their cars, the ash interior has black carpets, sills, and door trims, under dash. Not monotone like other interior colors, it looks custom. We are very happy.

Our New GLK is pebble gray, which is a very nice color matched with the AMG package. I have a couple pics ill try to post when I'm done traveling.

I must say I tracked down a Diamond white and now am reconsidering. The pearl effect is beautiful, and really makes it a stunning white. As much as I like black, I swore after my last black vehicle never again. So I am thinking maybe bite the $1,600 bullet and go with the DW. I am planning on getting the AMG rims, and that combo really seems to work. Not surprisingly, when you search the 2013 GLK, many of the promotional pics are a Diamond White with running bds and upgraded AMG wheels. Usually they put fwd one of the better colors for the promo material.

I completely agree with this. My last car was black and my GLK is white. Black cars look great when clean but those swirl marks are unsightly when u take a closeup. My white car does have some swirl marks too but they're barely noticeable.

I had a red GLK loaner for a week and kinda liked it. However, before I ordered my new 2013 GLK, I checked the colors dealers stock in the Phoenix area and Polar White is stocked 5 or 6 times more frequently than red. I figure it might be harder to sell a red car vs. the white.

I would order Diamond White on an E or S but not on a GLK. I'd put the money into something else such as leather.
