roof rail swap & headliner removal
Have an opportunity to buy a used set of brushed aluminum roof rails off of a 2013 & wonder if the rails will mount on a 2010 without problems. P/N's could be different but is mounting attachment the same? Also,
need an idea of how difficult it is to drop the headliner in a vehicle with the pano roof. Tried searches for this to no avail. TIA!

It appears daunting & then there is the issue of the roll over air bags which I believe are mounted in the roof. Guess if in an accident the air bag blows, the headliner has to give so it is automatically replaced. That is a one way operation as it would be damaged before removal & if it came out in pieces it did not matter, not quite my situation. Order of disassembly is likely very important, along with how to remove the "A" & "B" post interior trim panels. The plot thickens.

bring up www.alldatadiy.com, and purchase a subscription for your vehicle (year/$24.99 or something like that). It has what you need, instructions including photos, part numbers. I'd copy it over but too many photos, and I'm not sure of legalities!!! Well worth the $25. Works for my 2011 GLK 4matic.

Wow, thank you for link. It will be money well spent when the time arrives. The above list is daunting but with the additional photos, it is doable!

It did have sort of an interesting roller blind cargo net (for want of a better description). It was mounted just behind the rear seat headrests. You could pull it up (like a reverse direction window shade at home) and latch it to the ceiling. It had a large open weave and the purpose seemed to be to stop anything on the cargo tray in back from flying forward as opposed to being some type of privacy screen. Anyway I think it was a cargo tray instead of the retractable cover (to hide contents of trunk).

Very interesting about the plain Jane sans roof rails. Looking at mine today it appears the strips where the rails mount could possibly be available without places for attachment. Anyone on the other side of the pond with a P/N for the strips? Roller type cargo nets are common on Euro vehicles. Saab offered them ten years ago as an accessory.

I have a roller blind on my Saab 900 but it only helps keep sunlight out of the hatchback glass, adds a bit of privacy and reduces glare from car headlights behind you at night. Doesn't have a cargo function but maybe other models have that.
