GLK Transmission Service - Not Required?
Hey all, either I completely missed it, or there is no 40K service required on the transmission in the GLK. I looked forward and backward in the book and saw some other models that require 70K tranny service, but the GLK does not indicate service required at all. Did I miss something? I do notice that the transmission shifts far smoother in my GLK250 than in anything else that has ever had the 7G-tronic.

The GL250 BlueTec uses the updated 7G+ transmission - and MB recommended maintenance for the 7G+ is at 70K miles - not 40K miles of the earlier 7G.
That said - if it was me - I would plan for a 50K tranny service if you choose not to extend the new car warranty (called ELW) past the original 4yrs/50K miles.
Especially with trannies - it's better to be proactive with maitenance going into non-warranty land, than to be sorry/expensive later.
Yes - the 7G+ is smoother and quieter than - see attached tech/paper PR

I hope the fluid flush later this year on our 2010 2WD will clear the drivability issues on ours. Basic problem is delay of engagement hot or cold when going from forward to reverse etc. If it does not, the price of an extended warranty is likely less than the replacement of a transmission say 30K miles from now.

Thanks for the PDF. I did not realize that the tranny had its own electric pump to keep the hydraulics charged during vehicle stop engine shutdown. I guess it should have been obvious. What next to make a simple clutch and gear box more complex? At some point I suppose they will go to an straight modulated hydraulic drive with hydraulic motors at the wheels and do away with all that complexity.

I could not find the transmission service in "MY14_Maintenance_Booklet.pdf" and MB website calls it "7-speed automatic transmission".
The pdf file lists only E, R, S and CL class...

Well Bel...the 7G+ was introduced in 2010 on slect models, and if you read the article you would have noted it was written in 2010 as well.
All 2013 GLK's have 7G+, or have you not kept up-to-date on the 2013 GLK tech spec's ?
7G+ is what has allowed implementation of Eco in the GLK350, and frankly one of the main reasons 2013 owner's find both the GLK350 and GLK250 a bit more peppey, and a heck of a smoother driver than 2010-2012's ..
Also so that you know, specifically on the GLK350 since the prepaid maintenance program for GLK350 was not updated to reflect the '13 changeover to 7G+ - with required maintenance at 70K rather than 40K - at this moment makes the 30K GLK350 prepaid maitenance program the best value.. and 40K, 40K+ maintenance packages not as attractive - too high of price. Buy one 30K pack - then get a 2nd pack to carry you thru 40-50-60 which you can buy aftr 30K and before 40K service..
Do you own google 2013 GLK350 7G+ (7G Plus) and you can confirm, or ask a competent MB sales consultant or competent service advisor ... whatever... it's not so hard, but most aren't aware of the importance of the 7G+ tranny design.. mandated due to Euro going mandatory on Eco in 2015 for all Euro brands..

So the non eco transmission in the pre-2013 GLK is simply the 7G without the plus if I read the comments correctly. Interesting about the electric pump keeping the system pressurized when the vehicle is not running for the eco 7G+ transmission with automatic start & shut down.

You need to talk with your dealer regarding the GLK250 if you are concerned with prepaid maintenance.. for diesel you have two additional items - AdBlue top off at 10K intervals, which frankly can be done more cheaply DIY with generic DEF (disel exhaust fluid) and diesel fuel filter (somewhat of a *****y job) at 20K which is best done by MB..
