GLK 250 or ML 350BT ?

Hi

This is my first post. We currently drive an 04 x5 and I started shopping Mercedes in the last couple of weeks. I originally thought the best replacement for our current vehicle would be an ML 350BT? I looked at the glk and found it very interesting! I really like the economy of the 250, I wonder if after owning one for a while it may seem a bit small compared to the X5?

I am in Canada and there seems to be limited choice for GLK's at this time. The dealer I have been talking to is not really interested in giving me any kind of break on a 2013 and he is telling me the 14's are not available until Oct?

They do have some 350's in stock and are suggesting 4.5% discount, still seems a little steep to me with 14's right around the corner?

Anyone have any thoughts that might help me make up my mind?

Thanks in advance
Glenn

Very very slow
GLK is already smaller than the X3.
I think ML would be more in line with what you have right now.

Glenn
The 2014 GLK in US should be released this July and I have ED scheduled for 2014 GLK250BT at the end of August, so I do not think that Canada is so much behind...

GLK is small SUV for sure, but I like it.

So which part of Canada are you in? Just as an FYI I bought a in-stock 13 GLK250 (loaded with almost all packages except no driving assist) 3 weeks ago in Vancouver and got $3300 off, plus taking advantage of their one weekend-only promo of 0% financing for 60 months.

Hope this helps.

A gaggle of MB's
Alex - please understand 2014 GLK250BT can be "produced" but they cannot be released to retail until regulatory approvals in the (US+Cali) or Canada depending on respective markets- most likely October release. Even though it is a continuation of a prior year model - new model year requires new regulatory approval. Your dealer management is familiar with this from prior model year's ML/GL BT's..

Well equipped GLK's - including more selective BT's due to limited short model year - again, well equipped '13 GLK's have a strong upsurge in consumer deamn for good reason - much more "sophisticated" than 10-12's - real market killer.

I chuckle at the X3 comparison's - in the US the 302 hp GLK350 compared to the wimpy X3 4-banger and the 4-banger is $4K more comparably equipped ? The '14 GLK with 7G+ tranny is the quietest and smoothest compact SUV out there - and LESS than the BMW that has LESS.

July - a very good buyers month - trade in of current vehicle's will drop very soon as new model year for your trade comes out - July you will get better money for your trade - morgage rates are headed up - auto rates will invariably trend up if mortgage rates continue up trend - discounts from dealer margin on inventory/stock will sharpen in July especially approaching end-of-July - lets say 10 days out from today to maximize dealer eagerness ..

Keep the beat !

I am near Kitchener Ontario. They are not anxious to do much with the GLK at this time, they did offer me $3000 off of 13 ML 350 BT. That is about 4%, I would have thought more on an end of year model?

I really like the GLK and it really makes the most sense for my wife but it is hard to downsize from the X 5!

Seems like not much off. Offer them invoice on the ML. Maybe settle for $1k over that. Shop Toronto. Spend $35 and get the invoice from APA or Car Cost. APA will tell you the price you should pay and where to get the car at that price.

Smile Downsize to GLK 250

We did something very similar in that we went from the RX-350 to the GLK 250BT. Wonderful machine with all the trinkets. It definately is smaller than the RX in the boot area which I believe is also smaller than the X-5. My wife made her first trip to Costco (biggest load normally for the boot area for us) and she did not complain at all but commented on the pleasure she had getting there and back.
Certainly space is needed in some instances and depends on family circumstances however there are alot of small SUVs running around these days and the cost / km driven is certainly something to behold versus the RX-350 in city driving environment. I would venture to say the cost is 50% cheaper especially in summer when diesel fuel sells in Canada sometimes even cheaper than regular fuel whereas the X-5 and RX 350's of this world require Premium fuel.
The GLK 250 BT is superb, comfortable and quiet with just enough get up and GO to make it feel like you are driving something with some spunk.

2013 GLK
I picked up a 2013 GLK two months ago and love it. We did drive the ML, and although bigger the big put off was the MADE IN THE USA. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Canadian/US made vehicles, but I'd like to the think the Made in Germany adds a certain sense of quality assurance.

Not a deal breaker for many, but it definitely influenced my decision!

We moved from a Limited Ford Edge to the GLK 250 and while it is a bit smaller, it definitely makes up for it everywhere else. ie> 6.4L/100Km this weekend.. LOL - With Diesel costing only 117L just outside the GTA (Ontario, Canada) it only costs me $65 to fill from almost dead empty.... loving it!

We also did consider a move to the ML, but the extra $300 month was not worth the little extra room.

I did get an offer for about 3k off on a 13 glk250 today. This is about 5.5%. I think I could come close to that on a 2014? Offer was from out of town. I have read some not great quality control issues with the ML, that's scary on a 70k car. Seems like everyone loves their GLK!
