Brake labour
Does anyone know what the flat rate amount of hours a shop would charge for labour to do the front pads and rotor on a GLK? Isn't there a book shops use to look up the customary amount of time to charge for the job?

if you are the least bit mechanically inclined, i encourage you do this yourself if you have the interest, tools, time and space. doing brakes on a GLK is really very easy. We did pads and rotors on all four wheels in under two hours, it was only two of us working at a casual pace.

I haven't done brakes since I did them on my Infinity QX4. They were a big pain in the a$$. You had to set preload on the bearings, and you had to separate the hub from the rotor but I managed. I have already got a set of Zimmerman rotors and Ate pads for the GLK. I was looking at my floor jack when I went into the garage and it looks like the seal has failed so I would have to buy a new one. I was thinking if an independent shop would only charge a couple of hours it might be worth bringing it to them. I checked youtube and saw a couple of how-to videos for GLK brakes and it really seems easy. I might just get a new jack, some Etorx sockets and do it.

Finally did it
Well I finally collected all the stuff to do the job and did it last weekend. It was very easy. The hardest part was loosening the caliper carrier bracket bolts. After the first six or seven stops the brakes sounded and felt pretty good. Now, after a couple of days and several hundred kilometers they feel great. It's nice to save the money on labour and get the satisfaction of doing the job yourself.
