Lightbulb GLK 250 steering wheel not adjusting up or down

I have a 2103 GLK 250 Bluetec. My steering wheel will no longer go up or down when automatically adjusting it. It still does go in and out but not up or down.
Does anyone know the fix or the cost of the parts and labour for such a fix? Or can I fix this myself?
Any advice would be great! Thanks in advance

Just had this same exact problem with our 2011. Took it in to my independent mechanic and he was able to tap on the motor/ steering column and get it working - sorry don't have anymore details.

usually the "tap" on the motor to work indicates a dead spot on the motor windings...as long as you know this, when it no longer works...swap out for new motor

When ours did that the shop replaced a small plastic "Driveshaft" for lack of a better word. do you hear the motor "Whirring" when you try to adjust , if not it could also be a fuse...

I have seen some stuff on youtube with this small plastic "driveshaft" which some call a "dog Bone". My friend that works at Mercedes said $400 for the motor and shaft. They said they cannot get just the shaft anymore

My wife's 2014 had the same issue. You could hear a bumping noise when using the up-down switch but the wheel would not move. I took it to the dealer as the car is under warranty and the tech found a fault code 9D9031 and wrote: "the position sensor of the actuator motor for steering column up/down adjustment has a malfunction. No signal present. 9EBB54 Normalization of up/down steering column adjustment is missing. Calibration is missing. Processed fault codes and normalized steering wheel. Rechecked good".

So, I don't know if yours makes a noise like a thump when you try to move it but it may be fixable by computer like ours was. Good luck!

It does make the noise for a second or 2 and it does not move at all.

How much did the dealer charge for this?

thank you for posting this. my column didnt move at all, i would move the stalk, hear a single click but nothing would move. after reading your post i figured, what the hell, held the stick down and gave the top of the wheel a very hard smack downward, whola. the wheel adjustment works in all directions now. i set the wheel for my SO and hopefully we'll never move the wheel ever again

Got it working

I heard the motor working for a sec then stop.

Spoke with a mechanic that works for MB and he advised me to hold down the mechanism and hit with my hand or mallet to force the steering wheel down. He said this is common and just gets jammed.

Believe it or not....it WORKED!! Been working flawlessly for over a month.

Unhappy Same issue a few times

This same thing has happened to me a few times. Each time it resolved itself within a day or 2. I'm not sure what the problems is (I read a few of these threads), but it hasn't gotten 'stuck' yet.

Have to ask: was the truck sitting out in the rain before you drove off? Mine just did the same thing this morning, it has been raining since yesterday.

The last time it sat in the rain overnight (quite hard rain), the turn signals and the Blind Spot Assist wouldn't work either. After driving it around 30 minutes, turn signals started working and Blind Spot Assist came back.

Just FYI: if these electricals aren't working after it sits in the rain, you might have to find the front and rear SAMs and inspect for water damage/corrosion. This is where my search has led me so far, seems to be somewhat common.

It happened to me a the dealer said they reset it. I decided to not use the auto up down on the steering wheel anymore.

I was reading about that small coupling collar which might be broken, and was looking at how to replace myself. Until I read some posts here about the Tap. Well out of frustration at a red light with the steering wheel stuck at the high position, I pulled down hard a few times (while making red face grimaces) and holding the down lever and all of a sudden, it worked. All the way down and all the way down. I have since disabled the auto steering wheel up\down function. (GLK 250, 2014). You guys probably saved me a grand. Many grand thanks.

Smart man.

The trouble with super over-engineered products (such as a Benz and other German autos) is that there are so many more little things that can, and invariably do, fail.

I just gave it a tug down a few times in sync with adjusting down and it broke Free from being stuck in the 5th try

I would disable the comfort entry/exit setting, if you haven't already.
