2013 GLk 350 Engine Rattle
I just recently purchased a 2013 GLK350 4Matic with about 50k miles. Everything felt/sounded good when I test drove it, but recently I have noticed that during a cold start I hear a rattle/clank noise under for hood. I've searched the forums and it seems like this may be the secondary timing chain tensioner problems the earlier M276 engines were having. I only get the rattle during the first few seconds when the engine is started.
I was going to take it back to CarMax since my 30 day warranty is still active, but I'm a bit worried that they wont fix it right since this isnt a normal problem.
Would I be better off just having the dealer do the fix so that i can be done right? Or has anyone attempted to the fix themselves? I've seen a video posted on youtube and it doesnt seem that hard.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Its a very straight forward fix, although not that simple. If you were to do it yourself you will need special tools such as a torque wrench and E-torx sockets. I actually had this cold start noise as well, but it went away after I did my most recent oil change (owned GLK since March 2017).
I was also thinking the same thing about CarMax. I just dont think they will service the car right. I'm gonna call the dealer next to my house and find out how much it will cost. I'm just barely outside my warranty too, so I wonder if they will cut me some slack and give me goodwill repair.

I may get a second opinion after i drive it some more. Although, they said my vin didnt bring up any technical service bulletins and everything was ok.
