GLK350 won’t start

Hey all i am new to this forum as well as the New to me GLK350 i purchased it about a week ago and am totally in love. Today when i went to the gas station and came out the car wouldn’t start at all ?! It would unlock lock , i can hear the steering wheel colon lock disengage . But no start not even a click . I am really lost and was wondering if anyone can please help me out . To include the car had a amp and subwoofer installed to the vehicle previously. Here’s a video it didn’t seem like the battery was dead either.

Test the condition of the main battery, yes there are two different batteries. Mercedes and finnicky with electronics.

But worst case scenario is the dreaded EIS failure or Electronic Ignition Switch failure. Your car instrument cluster is activate so it is unlikely.

Start by putting a volt meter on the terminals infront of the battery on the passenger side under the hood, I’d say minimum is 12-12.2v with a warm motor ( it should be over 12.5. -13) then try a charger. Or if you can jump it take it to any auto store that sells batteries , they check it for free. Your glk uses an AGM battery . How old is it?

lets just assume its the 2010 original battery, so if its completely dead by now you are very lucky. I am at 7 years on my 2013 battery.

I think they usually die around 8 or so years from what I heard. My 2010 lasted till last May, about 8.5 years.

It’s a 2010 GLK350 the battery seems newer it has a sticker that says 6/18 so I’m assuming it was replaced pretty recently all the electronics inside seem to be working fine lights don’t seem dim or anything ? Could it be that the ignition switch went bad ? Is my symptoms / video common ? Thanks in advanced for all your quick response

At the risk of sounding dense, which GLKs have two batteries? Where is the second one?

I am seeing that 2010 do indeed have them. It can be equipped with either A2115410001 or A0009829608.

It is located in the boot, under the right side panel throughout all model years.

You have to test a battery, I had a new battery fail in two months. You just bought the vehicle , you don’t know what you have. What’s the battery’s voltage ? Did you get it tested? The proper glk battery is an AGM.

So i towed it to a shop that works on Mercedes since my Mercedes dealer i booked till next month they said the car has fuse 23 missing but it’s been like that since i got the car and the i should get the starter replaced and then recheck . Is it normal for these starters to go bad ? Does it sound like there are accurate?

Strange to not get any noise when starting. Maybe corroded cables , bad ground. You don’t know what your vehicle has been through . No Warranty?

Maybe easiest put a volt meter at the starter. Or Put jumper cables on it to the battery, but with all the electronics first disconnect the positive cable at the starter , I’m suprised you hear no starter noise no clicking. Are you at or near 13v when just stopping charging? 12v is really a dead battery . An old trick with a bad clicking Selinoid is hit the starter with a hammer when someone cranks it. The no noise issue makes me wonder if it’s getting voltage . You really need good voltage to the starter , minimum maybe 12,2v but fully charged is near 13v. 12v is basically a dead battery.

I just want to add to this, as I have experienced the exact same problem with my 2010 GLK 350, twice now. My best guess is also that is related to the battery but I am still not 100% sure. I also experienced weird electrical problems afterwards, the locks, the auto window wind down function, the compass in the rear view mirror all had issues after a battery replacement and "battery reset" at an indy Mercedes shop. Did you ever find out what the problem really was with the not starting?

Thanks.
