GLK 250 shifting to neutral at stops...?!?
Had my (new to me) 2013 GLK250 for a couple months and really really like it so far!! Question: Is it normal for the transmission to automatically shift into neutral after coming to a full stop?? Trying to confirm my suspicions but not having much luck with thread search's or owners manual so far. I notice a momentary feeling of a shift into gear after taking foot off the brake pedal and off I go...compared with physically moving the gear select down into "D" with foot still on brake (can feel it shift into gear) then after releasing brake pedal, can accelerate immediately without that momentary hesitation.
Sorry if this has been addressed over and over but just wanted to confirm this is actually what happens. I've seen the posts related to a "thump" after coming to a stop...but I have never heard or noticed that, just this sensation that the trans goes into neutral after making a complete stop??
What you're feeling might just be the braking hold and release delay, which is relatively normal.
How many miles and when was the transmission fluid last replaced?
An Indy shop should be able to do the entire driveline (including rear diff) for no more than a few hundred. Shop around, find one with good reviews that works on German cars and do it as preventive/scheduled maintenance every 60k.
At least that's my advice. Our GLK250 is rolling along at almost 120K miles and will be due for its 2nd driveline flush & fill.
Happy dieseling.

When you step on the gas it picks up the fluid, this was a very common sign of low fluid on almost ever automatic transmission ever built.
Right now the most important thing is to add some fluid, just so you don't damage the transmission, I would add 1/2 quart until you can have it checked the proper way for your car.
At 60K you are due for a fluid change, that is unless you believe that fluid filled for life bunk that dealers push to sell more cars.
